Or Tennessee with a retiring Rick BarnesAgree with this, which is why I would think we (Tennessee fans) probably ought to pull for him to continue trying to build a legacy at UCONN and grow comfortable there. Perhaps a "chicken little" mentality, but it would be awful to see Hurley have turned down UK, this year, only for Mark Pope to possibly fail in three years while Hurley gets spit back out by the Lakers, and then UK and Hurley are both looking at the same time.
Something tells me Hurley probably feels like he's bigger than the Tennessee job if he wasn't willing to even entertain the UK job. I'm also not sure how well his personality works here, either. His entire career (playing and coaching) has been in the northeast.Or Tennessee with a retiring Rick Barnes
Sounds like a football coach we all know. Tried the NFL and couldn’t deal with the egos and the fact he couldn’t have 100% control. And the lack of total control is a piece of why he just retired because of the changes in the college game.I’m no NBA expert by any means, but his temperament appears to be authoritarian and he appears to have a short fuse. Sure doesn’t appear to be the type to negotiate with players to buy into the game plan. Probably a better fit at the college level. JMO
That would be a most Auburn thing to do. Stephen Pearl needs to at least coach a rec league team before getting a P4 job. Riding Daddy’s coattails nor being a coach’s son is a good qualification for a head coaching job. Derrick Dooley says hello.Pearl would take that job in a second and then Stephen F'n Pearl would succeed him at Auburn.
To each their own of course. And all honesty, I'm not gonna give it much thought either way. But there doesn't seem to be the financial benefit for the jump now that there used to be, especially with what he's done at UConn. I just don't see the appeal anymore. A goal is a goal I guess.Hurley's ultimate goal is to coach in NBA. Strike while the iron is hot.
So Barnes? For what it's worth, Hurley met with his players before practice and said the rumors are true of him talking with the Lakers.
If he leaves, I'm perfectly okay with Uconn going after Calipari, Oats or Pearl. Matter a fact any SEC coach. Would be hilarious to see a program gets wrecked this late in the off season lol
Why would Connecticut go after Oats, Pearl or Calipari? For what it's worth, Hurley met with his players before practice and said the rumors are true of him talking with the Lakers.

To me, his personality would work just like Kevin O’Neill’s personality did during his time in Knoxville. Very different on-court results for the most part, though.Something tells me Hurley probably feels like he's bigger than the Tennessee job if he wasn't willing to even entertain the UK job.
