The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

If 25-30 years ago you had told me there would be a day like now where not only is Tennessee good to great in the 5 “big” college sports (football, men’s bball, women’s bball, baseball and softball) but that football and women’s basketball are right now the “worst” of the 5 we’re doing, I would have called you out of your mind.

And that’s with football on the rise and women’s basketball only doing badly by their own historical standards.

Also we're only 7 years or so from hoping we were good enough to make the SEC Tournament in Hoover, and I'm old enough that I remember the Wade Houston/Kevin O'Neil days of hoping we were .500 so we could make the NIT. So to be in a time where we have yearly CWS expectations and we have realistic FF expectations is kinda crazy.

I hate this time of the year.

Nothing is going on and basketball is 5 months away.

All I got to say is screw Zach Edey and Purdue and the refs

I miss the Rocky Top League kicking off around now. It was 3 weeks and used to wrap up week of July 4th. Too bad they didn’t keep doing it with former players.

Not everyone likes baseball.

I tries getting into it recently though
Certainly, to each his own. I hadn't been into baseball since they kicked Dizzy Dean out of the broadcast booth for sayin' "ain't."

But that 2021 baseVols team pulled me in for a look-see. From there, Tony's coaching and his ways of talking about the game, plus the 90% positive demeanor and mutual enjoyment of the denizens of the Baseball Forum has now made it a season I actually look forward to.

It always bothered me that, while I didn't like baseball, almost every author or speaker whose thinking I admired grew up loving the game.

I heard they're bringing it back. Gonna call it the Stanley Asumnu Invitational.

I missed the early years and don’t remember Stanley. But it seems like Jon Higgins was there for about 10 years.

I remember seeing:
Weezy Chism
Grant Williams
CJ Watson (when in the NBA)
Pearl Jr
Bruce
John Fields (watching, not playing)
McBee
Jordy McRae
Zach Kent
Melvin Goins
Quinton Chievous
Brian Williams (what was in his backpack?)
Admiral Schofield
Derrick Walker (his tomahawk dunks were impressive)

It was really cool to be able to sit courtside and watch them up close.

Barnes wasn’t supportive. But I can’t blame him if he wanted his Players to avoid an injury playing street ball.

Yeah Barnes did not care for it much.(understatement)

Asumnu would kill it there and everyone would think "this is his breakout year". But lo and be hold it would turn into just a solid contribution, nothing ever close to matching his RTL games.

I got to watch CJ Watson at TBA and he to this day is the smoothest basketball player I've watched in person.

And Zach Kent. How could I have left off Zach Kent? He was an incoming freshman and I really thought he was going to have a great career. Really good shooter. Great passer. Ran the floor. But it wasn’t just adjusting to the SEC. He was plagued with lower body injuries and that’s difficult for players that big to overcome.

Never mind. He’s on my list. Derp.

It's def not as good as the fall when we have football and basketball, but I love soccer so I'm enjoying the EUROs going on every single day and the Copa America starting tonight... oh and our baseball team is playing for a Natty! I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I do seem to like college better than the Majors.

Wildest part is it may be worth it for them. Monty Williams has failed up more than any NBA coach ever, maybe.
Not that I follow the NBA that closely, but he did take the Suns to an NBA finals with a roster less talented than what they have now. Then, they lose in the first round this year.

Radio said that Williams turned down Detroit a couple of times until they made him an offer he simply couldn’t refuse. So, that’s pretty much on them.

JJ Redick to the Lakers seems official now.

I'd be furious as a coach that has worked the ranks and been an assistant, to see a guy with 0 front office or coaching experience get a head coaching gig.
Idk. Redick didn’t really earn the HC spot in a traditional way, but just because he doesn’t deserve it doesn’t mean any other particular person was entitled to it and therefore has the right to be mad about it
