Is A&M any better of a program really? (other than paying more)
VT has 9 tourney appearances, A&M has 13.

Not really, but you’re gonna be limited at Va Tech being in the ACC compared to A&M. He’s gonna have a chance to be better. Plus he’s a Texas boy

Wow. I picked 15 out of 16 in the SS and 7 out of 8 in the EE. Tied for 3rd in the Freak contest.

Need Duke over TT and KY over Purdue. And Duke over KY. I'd pretty much be happy to forfeit the $250 if Dook gets booted tomorrow.

Man I’m down tied for 62nd on that. Though I’m first in the Gameday on Rocky Top pool (though, there’s only 30 brackets in it). Auburn making the Elite Eight helped me there

Didn't want to make a thread for it, but I have concerns over Drew Pember and Davonte Gains. I think that they could definitely develop into great players, but they both seem like projects. It feels like its time for Tennessee basketball to move on from projects. They take too long to develop when they work (Kyle) and most of the time, they do not pan out (Pons, Kent, JJ).

Anyways, I feel that if we can get a grad transfer in that is a solid big, like a Reid Travis, combined with the return of Bone + Williams plus some strong play from Burns, we can be stay in the top 20 all of next season and make another run.

I don’t think Pember is gonna be much at UT. I have higher hopes for Gaines. I’d like to get one more big for this class.

I think it’s early to say those guys didn’t pan out

Perhaps, but I think it is getting fairly close to the point where you can say it. Pons did very, very little this year. Personally, I can't see much improvement from him in any area of his game. He is by far an athletic freak, but when it comes to the game of basketball, he seems to be so completely lost that I just don't see much production ever coming from his game. Same for JJ. He's a hooper, great shot and athleticism, but low IQ, awareness, and defensive ability that doesn't look to be trending upwards. I think I am most excited by Kent, if he stays and can get on the court consistently.

Jury still out on JJ. Don’t think we saw him play enough minutes IMO

Agreed. Gaines will be a player, may take a year or 2 in a college weight room, but he has all the skills to be very good

It’s all about confidence. Pons and JJ showed that they can hit an outside shot. I think JJ can be solid with more playing time.

Pons, Fulk, Walker, JJ. All sophomores. Each could become very valuable by their senior year. Bowden has improved every year. 2 years ago Bowden's only offense was catch and shoot from the perimeter. Now he has developed multiple ways to score.

Kent could be gone, but he has 3 years left.

Now that I have had a few days to get over the loss to Purdue a few thoughts on the season.
1. The sweet 16 loss is disappointing as I think this was a team that could have won it all. There are several teams that feel the same way at this point and only one team will really be happy at the outcome of their season.
2. This team and program has gone from terrible not too long ago to something we should have pride in.
3. It was a good season overall. Being ranked #1 for several weeks felt good.
4. We have a team and individual players we can be proud of. No off the court issues, in fact they seem way above average in terms of character and academics. I remember when the football team had it going in the 90's. I was happy with the on the field product but some of those players really didn't belong on a college campus for various reasons. I had classes with a few of them and it was embarrassing. I don't feel this way about the basketball team. I would rather have these guys and this season over all the Kentucky one and done players. There is no comparison between the way the UK program is run compared to ours.
5. The future looks bright. Regardless if Wiliams nad Bone come back there are good things happening in the program.
6. Go vols.

I see this a lot but I don’t really think it’s true. I think Auburn, UVA, and TTU all feel like they are playing with House money at this point. I bet MSU does too, and am 100% sure we would feel the same way if we were in the F4. The F4 is almost seen as a de facto championship, that seems unique in sports. It’s a metric that is tracked and lends a program prestige.

Interesting. The way the last few years have went I’d almost be sad to see him go 😂 btw the article says he’s not interested

A lot of Kentucky fans are tired of the one and done revolving door of players at UK. Especially if they don't deliver the hardware. I think Cal may see this as an opportunity to move on while the timing is right. He is not getting the best of the best anymore. Duke has been landing those. He is not a good enough coach imo to win it all unless he has the best talent.

No offense to UCLA, but even $8 mil/yr for 6 years is a pretty weak offer when Cal is already making $9.2 mil/yr at UK. Not to mention the difference in cost of living between Lexington, KY and Los Angeles, CA.

Why in the world would they ever believe he'd accept a $1.2 million pay cut to go coach a worse team? If he heads to LA, it will be to coach the Lakers, not the Bruins. Not at that price tag.
