Not sure what transpired but sounds like a conversation occurred where CRB gave him feedback to the effect that he wasn't applying himself and playing consistently enough to warrant the playing time Carr expects/hopes for. Maybe @Stoerner Fumbles or @bleedingTNorange can provide some context.Sounds like he found the door to the doghouse…
Now, resume your earned role on the floor!
It’s the time of year where Rick pushes players harder. There’s no crisis with Carr. He’s a team favorite and gets by on personality and raw talent. Barnes just made it clear to him a couple of weeks ago that he wasn’t going to play if he didn’t play within the system at both ends. He’s made big jumps on offense and commitment. He still has a tendency to lash out when he loses his man on defense or misses a switch. He ends up fouling trying to recover. Dubar has been really down and has a situation at home amplifying that. You have to feel for the kid. He just hasn’t found a way to make a dent yet. After the scrimmage loss, the team has been very detail oriented, has tightened the lineup and has put a lot of time in on big to big passing inside. ZZ has also been very vocal and not letting anyone off the hook on lazy cuts and screens. I think the loss has been a good motivator for the team. Estrella may be significantly closer to full strength than anyone expected. He played quite a bit over the last week, and seemed not to slow down or favor his foot. Prior to the injury, he was a big focus on the offense. It will be great if he can continue to recover without setbacks. Excited for real competition next week. Not sure what transpired but sounds like a conversation occurred where CRB gave him feedback to the effect that he wasn't applying himself and playing consistently enough to warrant the playing time Carr expects/hopes for. Bet Barnes in a sense didn't mind the exhibition loss if team needed a shot in the arm to get them re-focused. Stinks for Dubar and maybe he can stay engaged and things turn around at some point. If not Cades going to have a lot of opportunities this year. It’s the time of year where Rick pushes players harder. There’s no crisis with Carr. A loss from the scrimmage was, in hindsight, 10x better for the team than a win imo. After the scrimmage loss, the team has been very detail oriented, has tightened the lineup and has put a lot of time in on big to big passing inside. That's what I suspected...great to hear he is increasing his focus and intensity. We really need Estrella to be a threat on offense when he comes in and consistently give us points off the bench in the paint. We really need the combo of Okpara and Estrella to give us 18 or more points each night along with 12+ rebounds imo. Not surprised ZZ is demanding 110% - what a luxury for CRB and staff to have that kind of player. It’s the time of year where Rick pushes players harder. There’s no crisis with Carr. Mashak at the 4 is still surprising. I wasn’t expecting much from dubar after the summer reports but I was expecting Igor and Cade to get most of the minutes at 4.That's what I suspected...great to hear he is increasing his focus and intensity. Sux to hear about Dubar - pulling for him to figure things out. I assume this is why we are hearing reports of Mashack at the 4.
Agree it would be best if Dubar could be our small ball 4 and allow Mashack to stay at 3. Dubar however seems to be really struggling on and off the court atm based on reports. Hopefully his situation will improve and he can provide some help esp on offense (from 3-pt line for scoring and spacing if nothing else).Mashak at the 4 is still surprising. Mashak can definitely guard the 4 though. I think we even had him guarding 5s some last year. Just doesn’t seem like the best use of his abilities unless the other 4 is just killing us and also isn’t a giant.
Versatility, Mashack gives you tons of it as he can guard 1-5 depending on the player, and major lineup versatile considering Igor can offensively play 2-5. Too early to make too crazy of definitive statements, but barring injury it sure seems like…Mashak at the 4 is still surprising. Post-game Barnes noted that the Mashack at the 4 was a line up experiment that we likely wouldn't see in the regular season. Said he liked the exhibition games because he could do things like that, and he wished they could have a couple more exhibition games every year just for experiments.Mashak at the 4 is still surprising.
