Generational defensive performance, therefore I shall drop them one spot
I said the same thing to myself. I guess Tennessee staying put doesn't generate interest or clicks. And I don't even necessarily disagree with their reasoning about Auburn's case for #1, but Tennessee has done everything that's been asked of them to this point. They have two true road wins over P4 teams, a neutral site win over Baylor, and are 4-0 against the ACC. The extent of the ease of our schedule is being pretty exaggerated. Dropping then without losing a game is really nonsensical. We've not even struggled or slipped up against some of these lesser teams...we've blown them out.

Do we need depth still? (Mostly kidding)

Averaged 27 mins per game at Oregon, but then got a season ending injury. Guessing he couldn’t get back into the rotation due to the success Oregon is having so far.

I had that conversation with an Auburn fan on Instagram the other day. There’s a legit argument for barn to be number 1, but it’s ridiculous when people act like it’s a farce for us to be ranked number 1. And not for nothing, but Auburn is still yet to win a true road game

For me, the biggest issue is that while AU has a legit résumé and strong claim for #1, Tennessee has done nothing to provide cause for them to be lowered in the rankings. If these people now clamoring for Auburn truly believe that's their rightful spot, then why was Auburn not #1 for them already? Tennessee's schedule hasn't changed. It's not like UT jumped to the top and suddenly decided not to play anyone. They've simply gone out and beaten everyone in their path since taking the reins as #1.

A lot of Auburn fans have claimed the escape against Illinois was cause to drop us. But even in normal circumstances, winning on the road against Illinois is a real good win. Given the foul and roster situation, it was a phenomenal win I’d say

Auburn fans, I get. They need no excuse to drop us. I'm primarily talking about those who vote in the polls or run some opinion-based power rankings like Jeff Borzello.

Well, based on their logic here, Auburn can't be #1 because they FAILED to escape out of Duke with a win.

Id take a a transfer or EE post player right now. Where are the Jarnell Stokes' these days?

What do you guys think about the football team's chances today? I'm a little surprised that we're 7-point underdogs at the moment. I like our chances, honestly, and I will be super stoked if we win. I have only been a real fan since 2006, so the closest thing to this kind of excitement I've experienced was the SEC champ game appearance shortly after.

I think Ohio state has the big talent advantage but the matchup is good for us. But Heupel has got to show he can win a big road game before I believe. On one hand I can’t be mad if we lose this, but had we showed up against Arkansas we’re probably in Texas’ position rn with a clear path to the semifinals

Game feels like playing with house money. I’m just excited to be there.

Honestly, this feels a lot like the UGA game. That didn't turn out well for Tennessee. I hate to say it, but it feels like a 31-17 type game in OSU'Ss fsvor.
Hopefully, all the negativity around OSU works in our favor, our fans show out, and we manage to squeak one out.

I think the spread is pretty fair, but we have a decent chance to win. To state the obvious, we can’t lose the turnover battle and give up a bunch of stupid penalties or the refs call a biased game. To me the key is whether our D line can control the LOS and pressure their qb. I think our D line has slumped a bit the last few games, especially against GA. Hopefully that was a health issue and this extra time off has them close to their peak again. I’m hopeful but not fully confident.

Weirdly, I’d feel a little better if the 2 underdogs so far had shown a pulse. 😆 Feel great about the good guys fan support there and that OSU fans are coming off as spoiled and entitled. I’d love for this to be the start of an enormous setback for them, if they fire Day after a loss. I think UT fans want it more going into the game than OSU. Hopefully the players effort on the field reflects the same thing.

What a joke. We didn't even put up a fight. These two teams are not even in the same league.

These first round games have hardly been a solid argument for playoff expansion.

I’ve felt pretty strongly that we massively overachieved with this roster. But that’s not an opinion that is well received in other forums, so I’ve mostly kept it to myself.

We looked like we moved in slow motion compared to Ohio State. Their team speed was WAY higher than ours.

We also looked outcoached. Offense and defense.

Offense has been pretty embarrassing all year. For a JH offense to be this bad, it HAS to be a QB issue IMO. I think Nico just doesn’t “get it” as badly as many people wanna make themself believe he is the future.

All those drop backs tonight where he didn’t throw can’t have all been on the WRs not getting separation, right?

He has a long way to go IMO.

Well our Dline sure didn’t control the LOS and we didn’t get any officiating breaks, but I left out where we couldn’t be worse than them at almost every position. How in the world did the team beating the brakes off us tonight lose 2 games? And how in the world did the team we rolled out there tonight only lose 2 games?

“There’s always next year” - battle cry of the beleaguered VOL fan!
