I mean, ratings for the year are only down 3%, ratings don't include many streaming options which the antiquated ratings system doesn't include and which the NBA has pushed into, and in-person attendance is at or near all time highs. NBA highlights consistently generate massive views on social media platforms. I'm not convinced the NBA is in a big decline
I don’t know the exact numbers, but Adam Silver has publicly addressed ratings being down and addressed multiple other times that changes are needed to meet modern viewership habits. If the commissioner is publicly addressing it several times then it’s at least internally a real concern.

The things I’ve read say ratings are down double digits. They were down 4% just on Christmas Day. You know there is some decline when Silver is floating the idea of 10 minute quarters to shorten the game. I’ve been to several Grizzlies games this year, and the length has gotten a little out of control with the reviews. One game, they reviewed for flagrants on two close-outs on shooters. Kind of ridiculous.
What I read recently said 3% for the season to date. There were large drops at the beginning of the year. But Christmas Day was up 87% from last year and through all ESPN platforms viewership was UP 5% through the first 34 games. The TV ratings just doesn't accurately show the whole picture. Here's my source:

What the hell??? I was so immersed in CBB yesterday that I missed this completely. It makes zero sense for either team (at least in the short term). Gotta mean more trades coming you’d guess
After thinking on it a little, the mavs are actually pretty dang scary after this and the lakers are clearly just punting on this season and preparing for life after LeBron retires (or gets traded).

Fair enough. There still has to be some concern with Silver’s comments. Having been to a few games, and the length is getting out of hand.

Lakers got a top 3 player in the NBA. They are not punting on this season haha

The odds makers apparently agree with you as they think this increases their title odds. I don’t see it. Luka is better than AD in a vacuum, but he’s a way worse fit next to LeBron and AD is having an awesome season while Luka is injured and out of shape.

I’ll admit that I am a Luka hater, but I don’t see any chance this helps the Lakers short term. This seems like a long term play to me.

did they bring Luka in to reduce LeBron's workload as facilitator/distributor?

They tried that with Russ and it didn’t work.

They traded for Luka because you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Who cares if he and LeBron don’t work. This sets up the franchise for another 10 years

Id like to repeat my strongly held and very unpopular take that we should play walk-ons and reserves in the SEC tourney. If they are going to reward you when doing seeding, what's the point? Especially as banged up as we are. Let Bishop and the boys have their day.

Man...still can't get over how well the team stepped up Saturday.

Obviously defense was on another level holding Gators to 44 (nearly 40 points below season average) on 24.5% FG and 14.8% 3PT, but the offense played pretty well considering 2 of our top 4 scorers were out. 40% FG and 27.3% 3PT (pretty much only Chaz hitting, but Gainey had a big one in 1st half).

Hats off to the home crowd, really brought the energy and helped the team a ton I think. Big minutes from Dubar and Cade and both put in a lot of work without scoring a ton of points, 3 blocks by Cade, 5 rebounds and 3 assists by Dubar.

Mashack or Gainey for MVP, although a case could be made for Chaz as well.

Shack played 36 minutes, 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block
Chaz played 36 minutes, 19 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, shot 55.6% from deep on 9 attempts
Gainey played 37 minutes, 16 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and just 1 turnover

Chaz and Shack specifically locked down Florida. Martin with just 6 points on 2 of 12 shooting, Richard with just 2 points and only got off 2 shots. Clayton had some points but an awful night as well 3 of 13 shooting

Just an impressive team win

11 more FG makes
15.5% better on FGs
12.5% better on 3PTs
5 more rebounds
10 more assists
1 more steal
2 more blocks
5 less turnovers

Playing with just 7 players and to beat Florida in every single phase of the game...amazing.

Couldn’t agree more with your analysis of the Florida win especially after so many thought the sky was falling on our team considering the Kentucky loss at home.My rationale for the Kentucky loss was our team was basically gassed after expending so much energy into the Auburn game and then the short turnaround leading into the Kentucky game. This team has some real “dogs “ when it comes right down to it and really proud of them.GBO!

It’s a soap opera league and they have made it like that

Yeah late game Saturday night in Auburn then travel back (and Gainey was battling Flu before that one & Igor a calf strain) then get back and turn around to face Kentucky Tuesday night. Auburn got an extra night and didn't play until Wednesday night.

Kentucky was also in "can't lose" mindset and they played like it coming off back to back losses...Then Saturday it was our time to turn on that mindset and boy did we!

Now hopefully the team is in better health for Missouri Wednesday night, they are going to be a hard team to beat and we get 2 straight road games afterwards. Need this one in a big way!

Hopefully one takeaway is Barnes can give ZZ more of a breather during games so his legs aren't as tired.

Yes, it was, in my opinion, the best performance of the Barnes era, all things considered.
