The Official “Regular Posters of the Basketball Forum” Thread

I can’t believe any of you actually watch the NBA. I don’t think I can name ten active players. 😂
Give it another couple of years and college basketball will look no different. None of the players at the big time schools will be students, just employees. They’ll all be under contract just like the NBA players.

You would have to be an absolute hardcore fan of a team or player to watch regular season NBA games. Every team with even a pulse is still getting to the playoffs. It still doesn't make sense watching till April. What our you watching for? To see if your favorite player or team's best player gets hurt before the real games start?

Tbf someone could make a similar argument about college basketball. In either case, it’s about seeding, and also it’s just fun to watch basketball

I watch it all the time. It has flaws, but I find it infinitely more enjoyable than random CBB games (not UT, of course)

I watch for the players.

Watching guys like Jokic, Curry, Luka, Shai, Wemby, Brunson etc… is awesome.

It’s honestly basketball terrorism if you aren’t watching as much Jokic as you can. I’m convinced the guy knows how to slow down time.

True, and with how they rest starters now it's crazy they even keep an 82 regular season...

I watch when I can just to see if DK goes off or not. But it's a crap shoot on which nights he gets good minutes and even those nights he may not get a full greenlight to shoot.

And that's the issue with the NBA and why a lot of people, basketball fans, in fact, are out on the product. 82 regular season games and then a playoff format that drags out over 2 months is just oversaturation. The same way MLB playing 162 games is oversaturation, though the majority of their season plays out over a period when there is little competition for viewership, so baseball is more tolerable.

It will never happen due to the revenue loss, but the NBA would so much more watchable if it were a 50-gm regular season. The games would mean more, the "load management" BS would be reduced as a result, and fans wouldn't be worn out by the product.

And in the time it took you to write this, the NFL just added another game to the regular season, and CFB added another playoff round. 😂

Yeah, the NFL is approaching its limit, as well. I liked the 16-gm model. Going to 17, and eventually 18 is kind of annoying, though what they've really done by doing it is making two preseason games count. They reduced the preseason from 4 to 3 and by going to 18, will reduce it from 3 to 2, so it is a little more tolerable, though the first couple of weeks of the regular season generally are a crap shoot as teams are still coming together without the additional dress rehearsals.

With college football, I really wish they'd adopt the lower division model and go to a 10-gm regular season with a 24-tm playoff, giving the top 8 teams a first rd bye.

Completely agree. Hell just start with removing 20 games. 62 regular season and then the absurd longer playoff format wouldn't be as crazy.

They have been discussing the idea of shortening the season for years due to the "load management" used by teams to keep star players fresh for the playoff grind that causes them to miss many marquee regular season games, but the owners would never give up the gates and the media revenue.

The commissioner, Adam Silver, recently floated the idea of 10-minute quarters, shortening the games by 8 minutes. Over the course of the season that would mean 12-13 less games played, but the owners would still get their full allotment of gates, and ticket prices wouldn't be changed. Typical slimy way to solve a problem without the league paying any price.
