Your wrong about nothingI put myself in a self-induced posting exile for about a month, because I know my lukewarm opinion about this particular team wasn’t welcome. I’ll probably go back into that exile after this post, but just want to say this one hurt.
Losing to this short-handed, mediocre Kentucky team twice has been just depressing. We have basically single-handedly saved their season.
I have just had a hard time buying into this team this year with our inability to show any consistency on offense. We have managed to string together 2 good halves of offense between Mizzou and Oklahoma, but that’s about it.
I didn’t mind the gameplan tonight, we just didn’t execute on it. I don’t know how you just flip a switch offensively 25 games into the season. Arkansas came into Rupp and scored 90. Florida scored 100. Ole Miss scored 98. Alabama 102. Kentucky just seems to be the perfect test case for our offensive futility this year.
Oh well. Feel free to rip into me now. Just need to shout into the void. I’ll go back into exile. See you all at some point in the future.
What does our record over 50 years playing at Rupp have to do with tonight? Especially when we were the underdog in nearly every one of those games, unlike tonight? If you’re not upset about losing to a team that let Arkansas beat them on their floor by way of a collapse in the last four minutes when said team was missing its two best players, idk what to tell you. But I’m gonna be upset for a minute if you don’t mindThat mediocre team has the same number of Quad One wins that we do. Did you know our won-loss record was 9-40 in Rupp Arena before tonight? Now we’re 9-41. Relax.
In my opinion this game falls on Lanier, Gainey, and Barnes.
Lanier and Gainey were just absolutely awful tonight. Shot us out of it.
And Barnes had a very rough night coaching. I'll give him props for changing the offensive philosophy from jacking up 40+ 3s. But was awful game plan of leaving guys wide open on 3s. And then awful decision for keeping Igor out for so long. Then add in Barnes called one timeout during the 20-6 run Kentucky went on to end the game. And that came with 1:13 remaining.
It must be nice to just pretend that wasn't a bad loss and go about your night like nothing happened. The first half was some of the worst basketball we played all season. Played much better in the second half only to completely collapse at the end. What does our record over 50 years playing at Rupp have to do with tonight? I’m less mad with Barnes really other than subbing Igor out for so long. Feels like players being so incredibly skittish in the first half and then (apart from Igor) not being able to hit the broad side of a barn in the second. In my memory we were getting better about contesting kentuckys threes as the game went on, they just kept making them.In my opinion this game falls on Lanier, Gainey, and Barnes.

I’m disappointed, but all that matters is what we do in March. What does our record over 50 years playing at Rupp have to do with tonight? Yeah, we definitely adjusted our defense to extend and face guard beyond the 3-pt line in the 2nd half. And it worked for about a 10 minute stretch. UK didn't make a single 3 (really only attempted a couple) from the 14:34 mark to the 4:24 mark when Brea hit that shot in Mashack's face, and even that one was well-defended. Why we didn't implement that plan for the full 40 minutes defies logic, especially after UK lit us up at TBA.I’m less mad with Barnes really other than subbing Igor out for so long. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but my anger springs less from the fact that we’ve slid to the projected two line, and more so from the fact that Kentucky basketball is my least favorite team in all of sports and I would like not to get upset by them over and over again as we have been recentlyWhat we do now sets us up for that and even winning one of these two would have us solidified as a 1 seed. Now, we are squarely behind UF.
I guarantee you his game plan was not to leave guys open for three’s. The last 2 by Brea were contested. In my opinion this game falls on Lanier, Gainey, Mashack, and Barnes.

Mashack played 26 minutes and gave us 0 on offense again.

There was a media timeout at 3:49 left, and it was 61-60 UK. That 20-6 run was over 2 timeouts.

Couldn’t said it better. Kim Caldwell managed to beat our biggest rival in year one. JsThis. I grew up never winning at Rupp and seeing 1 sweep of UK basketball and 26 years later I've seen only 1 more sweep which is the year we had to play them a 3rd time and lost in the SECT Finals. And that was 6 years ago now, and we've been swept by them 2 times in that time span and lost 3 straight home games to them, 3 games in a row to them, and lost 5 of the last 6.
They are our biggest rival and we've been just as good if not better than them in the past 8-10 years yet we're still losing to them. Beating UK is still an important goal of the basketball season to me.
And nearly every 3 in the first half was wide open or not contested.
And as I said Barnes only called 1 timeout. He doesn't call the media timeout
