Either having an all American low post scorer like Grant or the 3 headed guard monster of Chandler, ZZ, and vescovi to breakdown a defense.I'll also say this... not finding a true low post big since Grant is a big part of the issue.
2018-19 we finished the season in the top 65 in shooting % at every level 23rd in 2PT, 63rd in 3PT and 27th in FT. 11 guys recorded shots from deep, only 2 of those 11 weren't shooting 32% or better (and that was Pons and Lucas Campbell)
Having Grant as an entire scorer who could also kick it out when doubled made Barnes style of offense run like a well oiled machine.
Finished that year 2nd in points per game in SEC, 1st in FG%, 5th in 3PT%, 1st in Assists, 1st in made FGs
Fulkerson, Olivier, Anosike, Uros, BHH, Aidoo, Awaka, Felix just aren't able to do it.
JP = tbd
Igor a true stretch 4 and isn't comfortable with back to the rim it seems
2 seed Purdue: 19-6 (8th on offense/31st on defense)
3 seed Wisconsin: 19-5 (9th on offense/37th on defense)
4 seed Kentucky: 17-7 (3rd on offense/82nd on defense)
8 seed Baylor 15-9 (10th on offense/72nd on defense)
9 seed Gonzaga: 18-7 (7th on offense/44th on defense)
I absolutely believe the hard emphasis on defense has an adverse effect on our offense at times. Hard to believe it doesn't hurt our consistencyIs there any particular reason you chose to highlight these four teams as an example to prove your point? I guess I’m not following. I’m not advocating for us to completely forget how to play defense but there are other profiles that I would much prefer we have.
Why not highlight these teams:
2-Seed: Iowa State (18th in Offense, 7th on Defense)
3-Seed: Texas Tech (29th on Offense, 11th on Defense)
4-Seed: Arizona (17th on Offense, 14th on Defense)
6-Seed: Maryland (20th on Offense, 21st on Defense)
I could keep going. I’m not advocating for a complete 180 where we are sub-80 on defense for a Top 3-4 offense. I’m just hoping for a more balanced team. It often seems like simply broaching that topic or bringing up our severe flaws offensively is met with sentiment along the lines of “Why do you hate Barnes?”
Well I figured I would draw the line somewhere and chose the best teams on KP that had a pretty wide variance like Tennessee does, since that was the point of the topic. Those teams you listed are much more balanced, although that hasn’t really correlated to much more of any success currently. Is there any particular reason you chose to highlight these four teams as an example to prove your point? The idea of having to go 2-1 over Bama, at Ole Miss, and at A&M is not comforting, especially with how we disappear on the road so easily. If you put the O/U at 1.5 losses, I think I'd have to take the over. After sleeping on it, I’m not concerned really. 5-1 down the stretch is my guess. Really love what Igor is doing, that will open up things for Gainey and Chaz. Is it frustrating? Sure, but it took Uk shooting 50 percent to beat us and they did so kudos to them. Everyone take a chill pill, we are fine.
Missing 10 minutes at the 2&3 spots, but I agree either way your premise and said similar earlier today. I don’t think this teams reaches its ceiling with Shack playing 25-30 minutes.I like Mashack and appreciate his defensive prowess and versatility, but it’s painfully obvious that him continuing to play significant minutes will do nothing but hold this team back. Below is the rotation I would ride with the rest of the way.
Zeigler 35 / Gainey 5
Gainey 30 / Mashack 5
Lanier 30 / Mashack 5
Milicic 35 / Dubar 5
Okpara 28 / Phillips 12
