You know what they say about the gambling community…I was shocked when I opened the game thread and Louisville was a 2.5 point favorite. I know they try to get even betting and that sets the line. But I'm shocked people had that much faith in Louisville and that much disrespect for Tennessee.
The efficiency is certainly there and the scoring ability has been appreciated. He doesn't bring much else, but i don't know that much else was expected, necessarily. It’s very early, but those questioning his transition/1 good year/being out of shape have to be quite shocked to see how he’s looked so far.
Yea, not sure anyone was expecting a DPOY nominee, do however a lot of questions about his conditioning and his 1 good year likely being a 1 off.The efficiency is certainly there and the scoring ability has been appreciated. Not sure if this is an intentional swipe at me because I didn't just blindly accept that he was automatically the second coming. But, yes, I did question whether his game would transfer after taking so long to make an impact at the low major level. A fair question that I stand by. So far, so good, in terms of putting those concerns to bed.Yea, not sure anyone was expecting a DPOY nominee, do however a lot of questions about his conditioning and his 1 good year likely being a 1 off.
Yeah, it wasn't exclusively the defense I was really referring to. I think we all knew he wasn't going to be a defensive stud based on his efficiency numbers at North Florida on that end. However, he also only has 3 total rebounds and 1 assist in 55 minutes across 2 games. Not that he was a big plus on that end, but he’s not been the sieve on defense some worried he would be imo
The team needs some offense, so I’m fine if that is what he provides. With guys like Mashak, ZZ, and Okpara, he can give up a little defense to make shots.Yeah, it wasn't exclusively the defense I was really referring to. So, fortunately he's been scoring at an efficient clip. Without the scoring efficiency, he's not brought much else, so it makes the scoring punch necessary for him to be effective.
I was very impressed yesterday. I had concerns going into the game. I wasn’t sure what we had with this team. We didn’t look good against GW or Indiana. Vegas has Louisville favored by tip-off.
But for Game 2 in a hostile environment, we looked fantastic. We made their life hell on defense, which is great to see because it was certain how good defensively this new team could be. We spread the wealth on offense. Cade looked awesome. Just really need to clean up all of those turnovers.
I can't believe UL was favored. They looked bad. How many games can your star PG have 11 TO's and you controlled the game the entire time, even winning by 20+? I think UT is pretty good but UL looked lost offensively.
Something that I think gets overlooked is that the defense here is a team effort. It's probably a lot easier for a player who wants to defend well to be able to do it with us, because he doesn't need to second guess whether his teammates have his back. It's a lot easier to put the effort into defending when you know everybody else has bought in already. Not that he was a big plus on that end, but he’s not been the sieve on defense some worried he would be imo
At this point, I just hope to see ZZ's TO number drop as he and the team get comfortable playing together.
Part of it is that ZZ is pushing to score more this year, which he's currently 2nd on the team in PPG with 16.0
The positive is that's really the only negative I've seen on the team thus far, ZZ's high TOs. We have 7 players averaging 6 ppg or more, 3 are at 12 ppg or more.
It’s been an encouraging start to the year. My only real looming concern though is depth. With two open roster spots, and Dubar looking unlikely to contribute, foul trouble or injuries in a game could really spell trouble for us. I do think we’re much more balanced in scoring though with our first 7-8 players than we have been in awhile, which is great.
