Georgia Tech with the 5 point lead over Miami to begin Q4. I’m not sure that that helps TN’s playoff chances. Clemson could get the ACC bid and Miami takes an at-large.

If Kansas could eliminate Iowa State that would help.
TD Wreck! 28-16! Making the ACC a one bid conference?

I was shocked when I opened the game thread and Louisville was a 2.5 point favorite. I know they try to get even betting and that sets the line. But I'm shocked people had that much faith in Louisville and that much disrespect for Tennessee.
You know what they say about the gambling community…

“It’s the gambling community.”

Chaz might have the quickest release I’ve ever seen. Even faster than DK.

Dude needs absolutely no room to pull up
It’s very early, but those questioning his transition/1 good year/being out of shape have to be quite shocked to see how he’s looked so far.

The efficiency is certainly there and the scoring ability has been appreciated. He doesn't bring much else, but i don't know that much else was expected, necessarily.

Yea, not sure anyone was expecting a DPOY nominee, do however a lot of questions about his conditioning and his 1 good year likely being a 1 off.
Not sure if this is an intentional swipe at me because I didn't just blindly accept that he was automatically the second coming. But, yes, I did question whether his game would transfer after taking so long to make an impact at the low major level. A fair question that I stand by. So far, so good, in terms of putting those concerns to bed.

Not that he was a big plus on that end, but he’s not been the sieve on defense some worried he would be imo
Yeah, it wasn't exclusively the defense I was really referring to. I think we all knew he wasn't going to be a defensive stud based on his efficiency numbers at North Florida on that end. However, he also only has 3 total rebounds and 1 assist in 55 minutes across 2 games.

So, fortunately he's been scoring at an efficient clip. Without the scoring efficiency, he's not brought much else, so it makes the scoring punch necessary for him to be effective.

The team needs some offense, so I’m fine if that is what he provides. With guys like Mashak, ZZ, and Okpara, he can give up a little defense to make shots.

No game thread yet so I'll post here. You'll take a 22 pt win on the road anytime especially this early in the season. We dominated on D and on the boards with very efficient scoring...our bigs played really well overall - just need a few more buckets from them. Gotta reduce the t/o and I would like to see us shoot more FT and shoot them better (64%).

Mashack dominated the defensive end of the floor and rebounded very well - we will need him to get up more shots going forward.

ZZ showed the last game's shooting was no real concern...very surprised at his t/o rate but he will clean that up.

Chaz looked the part of an offensive assassin - let's hope that continues.

Okpara/Estrella really need to provide 16+ combined points and 12+ reb for us to be competitive imo...they had 12 pts and 11 reb - need more going forward.

Similarly, Igor/Phillips really need to give us 14+ pts and 10+ reb...13 pts and 12 reb - very nice.

Gainey had a very nice stat line other than 3 t/o - really need him to be that guy who can come in and provide some efficient points and play solid D while spelling ZZ.

I was very impressed yesterday. I had concerns going into the game. I wasn’t sure what we had with this team. We didn’t look good against GW or Indiana. Vegas has Louisville favored by tip-off.

But for Game 2 in a hostile environment, we looked fantastic. We made their life hell on defense, which is great to see because it was uncertain how good defensively this new team could be. We spread the wealth on offense. Cade looked awesome. Just really need to clean up all of those turnovers.

I can't believe UL was favored. They looked bad. How many games can your star PG have 11 TO's and you controlled the game the entire time, even winning by 20+? I think UT is pretty good but UL looked lost offensively.

To me, Mashack was the easy POG. When Smith got hot and hit a couple quick 3’s, CRB moved Mashack over to guard him and he completely took Smith out of the game. Shack also dominated that bleached hair Pete Davidson looking dude who was Louisville’s leading scorer coming into the game. Having a lockdown defender who can dominate a long range 3 point shooting off guard and also dominate a stretch 4 is an incredibly rare player. If Shack can up his scoring a bucket or 2 each game and especially if they’re 3 pointers then he’s playing himself into an NBA 3&D contract IMO.

I’m not sure how they were favored either. I think the disrespect helped fuel our team. I suppose it was simply because Vegas is guessing in these games early in the season. True road game. Cards blew out their first opponent and looked good on their exhibition game. New coach. We struggled some on Monday. That’s my best guess.

But we certainly made the line look very dumb. If ZZ doesn’t have 11 turnovers, we win that game by 30-35.

Something that I think gets overlooked is that the defense here is a team effort. It's probably a lot easier for a player who wants to defend well to be able to do it with us, because he doesn't need to second guess whether his teammates have his back. It's a lot easier to put the effort into defending when you know everybody else has bought in already.

At this point, I just hope to see ZZ's TO number drop as he and the team get comfortable playing together.

Part of it is that ZZ is pushing to score more this year, which he's currently 2nd on the team in PPG with 16.0

The positive is that's really the only negative I've seen on the team thus far, ZZ's high TOs. We have 7 players averaging 6 ppg or more, 3 are at 12 ppg or more.

It’s been an encouraging start to the year. My only real looming concern though is depth. With two open roster spots, and Dubar looking unlikely to contribute, foul trouble or injuries in a game could really spell trouble for us. I do think we’re much more balanced in scoring though with our first 7-8 players than we have been in awhile, which is great.

Yeah disappointing that Dubar hasn't contributed at all. Even if he's not going to be a big time minutes guy I'm not excited about 10 players on scholarship.
