The Official #1 Tennessee @ Kentucky Thur-Sat Game Thread (Thur. 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Fri. 6:30PM EST SEC NETWORK+) (Sat. 2PM EST SEC NETWORK +)

I really hope they will be able to hit the reset button and come out like men on a mission today. This weekend has been so uncharacteristically bad for them, but if you play the sport long enough it’s going to happen. You have to come ready with the right mindset for every series and every game. If you don’t, we’ll you see the results thus far from the weekend.

I had to bail on you guys last night, I have a little one that is not feeling well and he wanted me to lay down with him. I’m old, I was out like a light in no time!🤦‍♂️
Looks like you guys kept the party going into the early morning hours!
Someone check on chuckie this morning and help him find his draws!😂
GBO!!

Ky pitching. What is their Status? All week prior to the game many stated that it was a Non Factor.
Breaking Ball after Breaking Ball and 12 walks and 14 left on base would be a good indicator but bats failed.
I was unable to watch the second game, was it more of the same?
Reset on Pitching today?
Any Thoughts?

Their pitching, at least after Hagenow, has been rock solid. Lots of walks early on, but UK has settled down. They’ve had multiple injuries pitching-wise, but yet, after 20+ innings has held the Vols to 4 runs. They’ve definitely exceeded expectations, and the defense has been lights out.

We should have won the first game. Hegenow is not terribly good. Our hitters simply were not good--Luc takes a fastball right down Broadway for a called strike 3 with 2 on in the first inning is indicative of how off we've been.

Kentucky has played lights out. We are obviously their world series. The cats are having fun...we are having a difficult time relaxing.

The pitching on both sides has been very good. They have connected for three home runs; we have zero. That is one of the difference makers. Plus, their defense has been lights out. We've made some plays. but they have made more with the gloves.

The KY pitchers yesterday had overall better stuff than Friday. They greatly reduced their walks. One guy pitched both days. It has been a group of right handers, throwing 90-93 range. The pitching coach has kept us off balance. We've continued to chase breaking pitches moving down and out of the zone. Mostly sliders, but even some curve balls. You can tell from our number of checked swings that we're truly confused at the plate.

Over the next 12 hours, it is time for the Vols to relax and just play ball. The games really have little meaning at this point, so let's have some fun out there!!

When I was a kid, I saw an old guy put diesel on a puddled up dirt infield and set it on fire. He lit it off, walked over and said “we should be underway in a short while.” Sure enough, we were. It was a regional softball tournament and those guys were gonna play. I was dragging bats for my Dad’s team.

My brother and I were texting last night and he threw out an interesting “theory” about this series so far; this team has thrived on environment (whether it’s a home crowd behind you or an away crowd on you) and there’s absolutely zero environment this weekend. That’s a terrible excuse that you need the bright lights to get up because you should show up and handle business regardless but it’s not untrue that this is the worst environment we’ve played in all year and the stands look like a Fall scrimmage from the Raleigh era.

Outside of Harper and Guilfoil everyone they’ve thrown as an ERA of 6+ and yet they’ve shut us down. The wildness and inconsistency of their pitching has us not only guessing and waiting around a lot but I believe that’s made us anxious/undisciplined. You stand around for the first 3 innings Thursday taking 6-7 walks cause the pitching is so bad and suddenly Harper/Guilfoil come in and throw strikes and you have no rhythm or flow at the plate.

It has definitely been a good kind of wild for the kittens
