The Official #1 Tennessee @ Miss. State Last Series Thread (Thur. 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Friday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK+) (Saturday 3PM EST SEC NETWORK+)

They ought to be worried about their current opponents, because they’re losing games they shouldn’t lose if they’re as good as they think they are.
They should also be worried about UFOs
You got that right. This isn't hoops or football. On any given day is very true in this sport. In tournament baseball, you better be ready and focused on the team you're playing that day. Granted, we are positioned far better than anyone else with pitching to emerge from a losers bracket, but I'd prefer to avoid that particular scenario altogether. Let Arky deal with their own crap. I'll focus on State this afternoon. One...at...a...time.

Exactly. You never tank. That said, if it comes down to going all out with our pitchers to win in Hoover or make sure they’re not worn down for the Regional, you do the latter.
Whoever TV puts out there is going to be trying to win. Whether he’s trying to get some players some rest, in a rhythm, fine tuned, or out of a slump, I wouldn’t consider any move he makes as tanking.

Could only catch the last three innings last night due to a basketball meeting. Today we got a DH, baseball, starting at 11:30 central. Love supporting my son in all this but dang….really cutting in to my Vol baseball time. Thanks to all that throw out updates during the game. Signal is not good enough to stream at the BP.

Yassssss.

how bout them Vols.

Damn starting pitcher running that mouth and he gets the L.

Go Vols.

Let’s win today. and get the sweep.
That loss was on Lemonis. PJ pitched one hell of a game and shouldn’t have been rolled back out there. He was at 105-110 pitches after 7 innings and should’ve been in the showers. When his first fastball in the 8th was down to 90 from 93-95, I knew he was going to be in trouble if they kept him in. They didn’t know it at the time I’m sure, but once Bama won (and that game was already over) they were officially eliminated and were playing for nothing so there was no need to put that stress on his arm.

Apparently this has been an issue all season long for State re: leaving starting pitchers in too long. There have been numerous games when they’ve had the lead only to lose it in the later innings. They were in a no win situation this season - extend starting pitchers to their maximum or turn it over to a poor bullpen. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The trick is going to be balancing the work of the starters with the bullpen. If we stay in the winner column, we will play 4 games in five days. We are blessed to have four top starters, but if one or two has a bad outing, our bullpen will be taxed to the max, even with Sechrist now in the bullpen. If we slip into the loser bracket, the situation with the bullpen becomes even more acute, as Sechrist would be a starter. So, on Wednesday - do you hold the starter to 75 pitches instead of 100 so as not to overwork him, or let him go to 100 so as not to start overworking the bullpen? And then Thursday, etc?

Shoutout to @preacherman20 for the Kirby shirsey tonight for my son; he was playing Santa Claus passing them out to all the young UT fans around. By the end of the game the RF berm looked like a Connell fan club 🤣.

Shoutout to all the players & CTV for sticking around for close to an hour signing anything & everything these kids threw at them.

Big shoutout to Luc for taking it in stride and laughing when he reached for my sons ball and asked if he wanted him to sign it and he told him “no, I’m waiting for Cortland”😂😂.
I love it!

in all fairness they didn’t intentionally tank. They trotted two of their aces out to the mound against us in hoover and we run ruled them

That's true, but they had an overall awful showing in Hoover last season and wnet home early, then won it all at Omaha. There were a lot of raised eyebrows and comments that MSU didn't see value in winning Hoover.

That’s awesome! I’m really trying to find a way to get my boy a team signed baseball! He got a chance to meet Kirby, Beck, Evan and Lipscomb at the alumni hall meet and greet, but this team is special and has really sparked his interest in baseball and I’d love to have something for him to remember it by!
Maybe we can get to the regional or hopefully the super.
GBO!!

Great questions! It'll be interesting to see how our coaching staff approaches that balance in Hoover. In addition to Zander, I think we also may see freshmen LHPs Gavin Brasosky and J.D. McCracken come out of the pen at some point. Coach V was impressed with both after the Belmont game and singled them both out in his postgame comments. He felt they could help in the postseason.

easy to say that AFTER you go 0-2… lol and I’m sure we would say the same thing, but it’s not like they rolled into Hoover and said we’re only pitching bullpen in Hoover. They played their best and just got their socks beat off. I’ll gladly take 0-2 in Hoover for a Natty…
