The Official #1 Tennessee @ Miss. State Last Series Thread (Thur. 7PM EST SEC NETWORK) (Friday 7PM EST SEC NETWORK+) (Saturday 3PM EST SEC NETWORK+)

One more very interesting fact: Vol baseball had 27 runs and 25 hits last night. Beck and Lipscomb COMBINED last night had a total of 1 HR and 1 RBI. I say this just to remind us that our biggest boppers can be relatively quiet and yet, we can still blast the socks off people. Side note; I do know Lipscomb had 4 hits.

Wow, that might be the toughest question of all. I just don’t know. Your opinion?
For player of the year awards I typically lean more towards the everyday players since they are contributing to more games throughout the year compared to a starting pitcher. I gave Dollander strong consideration because he has been remarkably great but it’s just hard for me to pick a player that’s only played in what, ~20-25% of the team’s games.

Something of note for this weekend, MSU had to trot out 6 pitchers last night and all are likely burned for the weekend. Not sure on pitch counts because ESPN didn’t track them very well. Lemonis was smart to burn his worst pitchers in an early blowout. Likely left with his 5 best bullpen arms but that’s not saying much as their ERAs range from 3.92 to 8.22. If the Vols chase the starter early tonight, this could be an easy sweep

So who’s the MVP of this club??? Hmm… I would have to ponder that one a bit…this could go into some deep convos!! Let’s just save this for the latter part of June!!! … if this team finds itself in Omaha, I like the build up !!! Let’s keep playing one game at a time.
Hopefully they are not worried about team MVP and focused on EVERYONE getting a ring at the end of the season!
😎
GBO!!

So who gets player of the year, Lipscomb or Dollander?
Yikes. Idk if it's possible to answer. Goes back to the age old baseball question of whether pitchers have equal value because they play so rarely. I'll answer like this:

Lipscomb is more valuable, as he fields his position well and is amazing at the plate.

That said, Lip is not as amazing at the plate as Dolly is on the mound. Dolly is way better than any other pitcher than Lip is than other fielders. But now I've argued myself into giving Dolly MVP because he impacts the whole series rotation by being so good.

Player of the year vs MVP is important to consider here. If PoY I would want to see stat lines alone and I think that's an easier answer - Lipscomb and Dollander probably? MVP is a more thorough consideration taking into account the impact the player had on the team. For which I wouldn't rule out the two above, but would include Gilbert, Beam, Walsh, Russell, Beck...Honestly not sure if that captures all in consideration, but would be very hard. Let me try...

co-PoY: Lipscomb & Dollander (seriously both guys stats are/were incredible)
MVP: Gilbert
Freshman of the year: Drew Beam

Can't rule Evan as not being the most valuable. Handling the staff the way he has , not accounting the offensive numbers. Not the most talented but i am not sure he's not the key pc of this puzzle....just an outsider looking in but listening to CTV over this year , I have to think about his comments about ER being the Leader. I think that goes for game time , practice time and locker room stuff. Read an Article that came out in the Chatanoogen this week that talks about Russell being an unselfish leader.... just a remarkable team all the way around. So many stories!!! Russell was a walk on as well. Crazy !!! FUN , FUN , FUN
