Should I tell this guy I’m still feeling pretty confident in what we have? If I do, he said I’m lying, but the truth is, I do, and I’m NOT lying.
Lol. The football mentality is strong in much of this fan base. It doesn’t translate to baseball but I appreciate the passion. I just wish some of the negativity would throttle back.

Day #2 of the 3-round weekend dogfight.

Big night and opportunity for Dollander tonight. I was impressed by his bounce back and resiliency last weekend. Here's to hoping he has another strong performance.
Our guys in the lineup have no shortage of motivation. I am concerned, though, that they will start pressing too much if things take a turn. We'll see what happens.

Things will be chirpy.

We need a big night from Dollander. Starting pitching has been a bit streaky lately. But, most importantly, we just need better approaches at the plate. Don’t swing at junk. I believe in this team. Big opportunity to respond here and show people the “losing streak” is just fluky and not a trend.

Hard to not swing at junk if an umpire is calling it for strikes. The strike zone last night was criminal.

Our hitting has tailed off some last few games including the win VS Missouri also all the close calls have seemed to go against the Vols. Our baserunning has seen a few hiccups, some timely hitting by the visitors, and a few timely errors by the Vols have all added up to the anatomy of a Baseball loss vs an inferior teams. We will refocus and win this series.
The calls are what concerns me most. The showboating, complaining, etc., while part of baseball, can work against us. You know the officials talk…

Need Dollander to have really good control tonight and keep them off base early. The home plate umping has been super bad, but it makes one swing at pitches outside the zone when they are called for strikes. We were the team that drew the most walks in the country at point this season (may still be, I don’t know), but we can’t draw walks when crap like that is called so consistently. So if we’re gonna swing and miss then that’s what happens, otherwise it’s a called strike. Batters are talking back at the umps because of that crap. So If Dolly can control them early and build some confidence, then I think we can keep our cool at the plate better. Hard to play well when you’re frustrated and rattled all game because of officiating junk.

I agree for the most part. But it happens all the time just got to do what it takes to over come out .

Exactly. It makes a player really anxious at the plate when literally anything can be called a strike. This ump was pretty consistent though, calling everything in, out, and down…..strikes. Consistently terribly called game.

Anyone headed to the game watch out for limited parking. There's a track meet at Tom Black and that crowd is filling up the Haslam Music lot. Also, Alabama (the band) is playing at TBA tonight. G16 will be a charge to park and filling with concert folks.

Hard to cover these at the dish in back to back pitches. They’re both off.

Btw,
“Good pitch right there.” -Bob (as the catcher reaches all the way across the plate after setting up inside).
I was already angry. This is where I lost it. You simply have no choice as a batter but to hack away at whatever. That rewards poor pitching, and it don't deserve rewarding.

Another telling thing was a comment by Todd about the ump around the second inning. Something like, "he's got a tight strike zone here but that's ok since he's been consistent with it." By the end of the night he was calling things 6 inches further out on all sides. That's bad umping.

Well, Tim.......ummm, I saw it in the pros all the way back in the mid 80's...
So,.......there's that.

Its done because it mimics a "weighted object." Conducted slowly, and lightly. Equivalent to swinging a weighted bat prior to hitting.

You are so welcome Tim.....always here to help.
Kirby used to warm up with a football, then softball and didn’t pick up baseball until he was ready to go to bullpen. If a pitcher has never tried it, it makes the baseball feel like a golfball in your hand.
