The Official #1 Tennessee vs Alabama A&M Tuesday Game Thread (6PM EST SEC Network +)

Baseball gameday threads are trending that way but still a long way from a football thread. Put a helmet on and poke your head in there for game one when the fall rolls around.

I try, because there are a few posters I like to interact with, but it’s impossible and it also frustrates me with all the nonsense.
GBO!!

Completely off topic here, but since we have 2 staff members, I have to ask.
Do you guys follow other Tennessee sports or just baseball and softball?
The reason I ask is, do you guys discuss those games on the baseball forum, because I really hope you do! It’s so much fun over here and much more civil!
GBO!!

I am a huge football fan, I love basketball both men’s and women’s, really anything UT. We don’t usually start threads about games in other sports, it becomes confusing to folks in other forums and invites that stuff up in here.

I guess we could start a general discussion forum like in the MBB forum in the off season.

Usually after the draft it really kind of slows down in here.

Sounds like a plan to me! I actually enjoyed following everyone’s info on the summer leagues, last year too.
GBO!!

Their record may not show it, but they do have a pretty decent pitching staff. This will be the best pitching we see in the SEC behind Vanderbilt and A&M. We don’t play Arkansas or LSU, which are the two best staffs behind Tennessee at the moment. I’ve learned to not overlook or take any SEC opponent lightly. Baseball is one of those crazy sports where the best team doesn’t always win.
So, you're saying we may only hit 4 or 5 homers?

Hahaha my type of player right there. I don’t need a scouting report because I’m just going to play my game. I will say that Kentucky pitchers do strikeout a lot of players and I believe they lead the SEC in K’s looking. They have only hit 19 home runs in SEC play while only giving up 21, so they try to keep the ball in the yard.

Kentucky gives up 6.3 total runs per game in SEC play, but has a 5.3 ERA. Contrast that differential with our 2.8 RPG and 2.5 ERA, and it tells me they aren't a good defensive club. And that they don't pitch very well compared to us. They score 4.8 RPG, so they can hit (but contrast that to our 7.6 RPG). Their Slugging is .42, while ours is .56, so they are not a power hitting team compared to us. As far as giving up only 21 homers, they haven't faced us yet. We have hit 48 in league play.

I personally wouldn’t be shocked if we hit less than 5 but baseball is unpredictable. Now we also lead the league in doubles and triples so I expect us to hit more balls in the gaps this series as opposed to them going over the fence.

Why are you so much nicer to Cobb, when I asked the same exact thing…..

Regarding the draft, when the time arrives and if everyone finds it useful, I'd be happy to compile a new 2022 draft thread of info about our current team, incoming players, and transfers. Just let me know.

I probably just missed it. Generally if baseball and softball are going on at the same time, we discuss it in our game-day thread. On occasions when they are playing on a different day it gets discussed in the upcoming game day thread.

To be more precise in my earlier response…. If we had a game day thread which resembled a game day thread in the softball forum, folks that go to the VN main page to look at Hot posts or recents might come here thinking it’s the softball forum.

For instance, in the past when we have lots of activity in the commitment thread, we’ll occasionally get people from the FF thinking they are in the RF.

Ky stadium is a little larger in lf to the fences, about the same in center and right field. And if prevailing winds don't blow out to LF the way they do at LNS, I would also guess we will hit a few less homers. Weather report says rain starting at 9 pm on Thursday, and continuing all day Friday and into Sat, with seasonal temps. So, doubt the ball will be flying out. Might have to start Thursday game early and play two on Sunday.

Does Kentucky have baseball fans? We all know about fans of other SEC schools but haven’t heard a peep from that bunch.

Nobody pitches very well compared to us lol. They have also struck out only 9 less batters than our guys have. They have an average SEC staff as a whole but everyone just assumes this will be a cakewalk. All I am saying is that no team in the SEC can be overlooked.

I think the only problem is we wouldn’t be able to play a game on Sunday if the series were to start on Thursday. Someone said you only have 3 days to play 3 games. So if the series starts on Thursday it would have to end on Saturday.

Yes, they do have a small dedicated group of baseball fans. They are over Mingione and want him out, but don't know whether Barnhart has the guts to fire him. They also expect Tennessee fans to outnumber them at KPP this weekend.

I just did a little reading on their stadium. It's new, built in 18/19. But it only seats permanently 2,500, with 1,500 overflow on grass berm seating. So that says fandom isn't huge. For Vandy, their latest home series, they had 2300, 2500, and 2800 attendance. I don't know whether they are still in the running for an NCAA bid or not, but if they are they have something to play for and that might increase attendance. The fact they're playing us will probably bring up their attendance, too.

Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day. I want to play these games and get the W's.
