The Official #1 Tennessee vs Kentucky SEC Tourney Game Thread (Saturday Time TBD EST SEC Network)

We’re going to get their best shot again, like we did in Lexington. They probably get in the NCAAT with a win.

Yes, but it is also an opportunity for us to exact some revenge, and we have been good in revenge games. Great opportunity to play better, in better weather, and in front of our fans. We can end the Cats' NCAA tourney hopes.

While waiting for an announcement on the pitch time tonight, I thought it prudent to make the following PSA: Watts Bar Lake is a tolerant temperature for putting on a ski vest and floating around with a beer, looking at the sky and just chilling.
You’re welcome.

Ky will come in confident and fired up. They're playing to survive, while we are playing to advance. Don't underestimate their motivation. And they are a much better team that people realize. They proved it to us a few weeks ago. And they've kept proving it this week. This is a good team, no matter their record. They figured out how to pitch us in that series, and they will try it again: fill up the strike zone with slow stuff and breaking stuff and use the fastball just out of the zone as bait. The key to us winning tonite is plate discipline. Take them deep into counts. Don't be swinging at first pitch fastballs out of the zone. Make them throw fastballs for strikes. If we can get ahead in the count and force them to throw fastballs over the plate, we'll feast on them.

He’s not wrong though. It’s also a single elimination game, and literally anything could happen in one game of baseball.
I wouldn't say they have a good shot though.

Outsiders (rightly so) only see that KY won the series. What people don’t remember is that game one was played in a monsoon and was a pitcher’s duel won by KY in 13 innings (3-2) .. a 4hr 49 minute game. A deeper dive into that weekend and here’s what the stats show:

TN left 16 runners on base that first game (including bases loaded twice).

Game 2 - also played in a monsoon that was called at midnight and resumed play the next day in the 8th, with TN at bat with 2 outs, and 2 strikes…essentially giving them 3 outs to get back in it.

Game 3 - Good weather. TN’s offense pulled away.

Can KY win it tonight? Sure. Anything is possible, but it took all the breaks going their way in game, horrible weather, and a full pitching bullpen to do it. KY is on their 5th game in 4 days, their bullpen is spent, and they get a rested, pen full, #1 TN team who wants “revenge.”

The stats tell us a more complete story here.

IMO, this won’t be close. VOLS to the SHIP.
