The Official #1 Tennessee vs Notre Dame Super Regional Games Thread (Fri 6/10 6PM EST ESPN 2) ( Sat. 6/11 2PM EST ESPN ) (Sun. 6/12 1PM EST ESPN)

So you're saying a 34 game schedule of SEC teams is lesser competition than the three teams in our regional?
Would it sink in if I said you obviously don't understand postseason baseball? We played two teams in our regional that are top 10 nationally in several offensive categories. Who did we play in the SEC that is comparable? Florida. Campbell and GT are better offensively than everyone else we played in conference. Top 10 in runs scored, home runs, and runs per game. GT leads the nation in team batting average. Yes, the teams in our regional were better than the majority of our conference schedules.

And at the end of the day A New Season starts now.

Here’s my thoughts about the past and coming up weekend...

1. Our pitching has been stellar all season so I’m not worried about a little hiccup in a game or 2. Dolly will come out ready to roll next time he’s on the bump, watch and see.

2. Our lineup is full of power but we can sometimes lose our approach. Long bombs are nice but it leads to quick, momentum killing outs sometimes when we don’t do the job. It took us 5-6 innings to figure out the GT pitcher was throwing 90% of his sliders out of the strike zone but we kept chasing looking for that big time moment. If ducks are on the pond, shorten up and square it up and just find a hole. Won’t be able to live and die by the long ball in Omaha.

3. This point is one I’m a little worried about. The teams that steal on us have been stealing on our pitchers, not our catcher. I understand we haven’t incorporated a slide-step into the pitching technique but our pitchers (especially Burns) have got to do a better job at keeping runners closer to the base or Evan won’t have a dying chance to throw them out. Couple that with an off night locating pitches and that could be the difference in the ball game.

4. Stop talking about who we’re pitching in Game 3, there will be no Game 3. Tidwell and Dolly are gonna welcome them to LNS in the worst way possible.

No need to worry about the pitching. It's a lot of things - total innings, better hitters/hotter hitters, higher stakes, added pressure, etc. I wouldn't worry about our guys, we're fortunate to be able to hit when we don't pitch well, but our guys will step up. A good outing will go a long way and I expect to see some good ones from our boys after a not so (pitching) dominant regional. You'll see.

I agree. There have been a record number of home runs this regional. Look at the other scores and you will realize we aren’t as bad off as it seems.

That being said, I trust this staff to address most of the concerns this board has brought up (some are not worth addressing).

GBO!

I think the Notre Dame fans will largely be family and friends.
Notre Dame's base is wide but shallow. I don't see them being like LSU fans buying tickets on the secondary market. Even in 2021, the LSU fans were having issues getting those tickets.
The Irish fans will be in the 3rd base upper deck and part of section in the RF line bleachers and that will pretty much be it.
And not being drunk Louisianans or North Carolina Baptists; they will actually be bearable.

The day and times should be announced any second

Well, they have good pitching...we're elite there too though. 1st in ERA at 2.38, 1st in hits allowed per 9 innings at 6.34, 10th in strikeouts per 9 innings at 10.6

And we've played 11 more games than Notre Dame.

So they're pitching is better than Campbell/GT, but they don't have anywhere near the offensive firepower.

Campbell's first 2 starters and closer were excellent and on par or better than Notre Dame. The scouts and draft projection confirm this.
Notre Dame is a balanced team. No one runs the bases as much as Campbell did in 2021 and the Vols limited this fairly well.

So if we are fortunate enough to make it to Omaha, our bracket will potentially include the winners of these super regionals. Is it just me or does the other bracket seem less loaded? I highlighted the remaining top 8 national seeds.

ECU/Texas
A&M/Louisville
Virginia Tech/Oklahoma

Bracket 2 would include:

Texas St/Stanford (not played)/UConn (if score holds)
UNC/Hogs (if score holds)
Southern Miss/Ole Miss
Oregon St/Auburn

Depends entirely on who wins the Supers. Stanford/UNC/Southern Miss/Oregon State would be a pretty brutal bracket. I think ECU is a bit overrated.

I don’t know if this has been noted because there’s already 10 pages in this thread…. Notre Dame has a right handed heavy lineup. In their most used lineup, first 7 batters are right handed hitters, their 8 hole hitter is a lefty, and 9 hole is a switch hitter. This will really favor Tidwell, Dollander, Sewell, Burns, McGlaughlin, Joyce and Beam.
