At this point, there's a LOT of video of Dollander, Burns, Beam, Tidwell, Mabrey.

I wonder if Vitello would consider using Sechrist and McLaughlin to start the game. They've pitched a fair amount of innings in the regular season, but not so much that any team would likely go out of their way to actually prepare specifically FOR them.

There's a part of me that would love it Sechrist pitched the first two innings tomorrow, then McLaughlin pitches two, then Beam or Dollander.

If we can keep a team from getting more than just a couple of runs by the 5th inning I thiink we are a very difficult team to defeat.

We've got a lot of good pitchers and if you scan the ERAs Sechrist and McLaughlin have very low ERAs. [1.67 and 1.53]

There’s a lot of film on Tom Brady, but he still throws TDs. No offense to either of those other guys, but we have the SEC pitcher of the year and potential top-5 draft pick in line to start tomorrow. He will start tomorrow. It’s not the time to get cute.

I think the moral of the story is umpires love to inject themselves into the storyline of the game and affect it in some way. They love soaking up the attention. Makes them feel good. Wise people do not give umpires an excuse to become part of the game's story though.

Ted Valentine approves this statement.

As much as I love Vitello, I think it's fair to say that he -- or, rather, his player management style -- is partly to blame for what happened tonight.

Tony is on record saying he gives the guys a lot of freedom to express themselves ... that he knows they can get a little too emotional and jacked up because they are so competitive. Vitello appears to not want to risk taking away from their intensity by asking them to tone it down a bit.

I get that -- to a point. These are competitive young men who've grown a culture of winning through unbridled intensity and competitive drive. But, in hindsight, perhaps it might have been a good a idea if someone had said, "Guys, I want you all to stay fired up like you have been all year. But, let's keep in mind that we are coming down the stretch now, and the last thing any of us -- players or coaches -- need to do is risk hurting our team by ticking off the umpires. Do NOTHING that can hurt your team, and that means not interacting with umps or opposing players. They will be HOPING you screw up. Don't give them a reason to punish you."

The raw emotion was fun to watch all season, but today was the tipping point. Tony needs to do what he needs to do, IMO.

I credit our guys for battling back. Whatever happens, they won’t quit. As much as I love Drew, his emotions got the better of him tonight.

Dolly has to be on his game tomorrow. No one needs to say what’s on the line. Need to go all out tomorrow.

I couldn’t sleep so am posting this thought. As poorly as they played tonight, I’ve a feeling they’ll play better tomorrow. Will it be enough to win the game? We’ll see but I think this team has a lot of pride and veteran leadership and they don’t want to finish their season on such a sour note. They will play for each other and for Drew to give him a chance to return and play Sunday. It definitely is a heck of challenge and their backs are absolutely against the wall, but our guys are capable of battling back and still has the depth to withstand Drew being absent in the lineup for a game. Because that’s what it boils down to. Do everything possible to get the win and focus on Sunday when that bridge presents itself. GBO.

Jeff Macías, Angel Hernández et. al.

Saw some good things tonight, this is not all, not enough, but still good.

Seems like Ortega has been getting a big hit/homer for several games, and he got another tonight.

Beck’s long ball that became a sac fly scored a run, then later he got a walk, and later, a homer.

Ben Joyce stopped the bleeding, pitched in a way I did not know he could, did not just pitch 103 mph, but had hitters swinging at 80 mph pitches, too. That’s quite a range for a hitter to try to hit.

Wyatt Evans pitched well at the end of the game.

It was also welcome that our replacement center fielder, Seth?, had a big catch, right after Drew was ejected.

Big game tomorrow.

GBO!

Lol, everyone calls out Gilbert and Frank but the Ump is safe. Like the announcer said if your gonna toss them then toss them all. The game can’t have calls like that on a consistent basis.

I don’t think anyone is excusing the poor umpiring. We all know how bad it is. You have to adjust to it the best you can. Just because you aren’t happy about it doesn’t mean you can just say whatever you want to the ump without consequences. Gilbert should have been able to control himself better. His team needs his bat and the fire he brings, and he took himself out. I’m not sure any umpire would let you stay in the game if you look straight at them and tell them they’re f’ing horrible.

Sorry but Dollander is our #1. Has been all year. Burns is also as good or better than Tidwell. Tidwell has been throwing great lately. Until he hung three pitches and it mattered the most
Agree. I think the rotation should have remain the same with Tidwell in the bullpen.

This pitch was 3 inches off.

Originally, we're from St. Louis and saw that game. The MLB home plate umpire did not have a clue the entire game. I'm sure the MLB Umps are well compensated and there is no excuse to call a strike when it isn't even close. Marmol got his money's worth and loved it when he showed that Ump where the pitch landed.

We just need to quit blaming umps when we lose. When we are winning we are quick to talk our players up and give them credit. When we lose we focus on the umps. We just got outplayed. We can win these next 2 games. Does losing Gilbert hurt. Absolutely. We just need to focus on baseball and outplay the Irish today. GBO!!!

I don’t like the Cardinals but I applaud Marmol for calling out a horrible strike call. Every pitch matters and these umpires need to realize that.

I’m not blaming the loss on the umps. Blade made a couple mistake pitches and ND capitalized early. I will blame the home plate ump for an atrocious strike zone that directly lead to one of our best players being removed from the game. You can give the other team credit while calling out poor umpiring at the same time. That home plate ump should never be allowed to call an NCAAT game if those are pitches he deems strikes. The guy is awful at his job and honestly should be calling high school games if that’s his strike zone.

I feel a clutch performance coming from Dolly!
Looking for a low scoring hard fought game today. Hope Dolly has his stuff today. We don't need to hit the pen so hard today we need choices for Sunday. But we have to do what it takes to get to Sunday. these guys want give in but really need to cut down on errors.
