The Official #14 Tennessee @ #19 Alabama Game Thread, 9:00 PM ET, ESPN2

I think Schofield and Company pulled off a couple of insane wins in similar situations before. These guys were playing like... Well to answer your question I don't know what the heck that was.
PS, last two IMO. How did VB end up with the ball after a TO? 🤣

Man I miss them. SEC has not had a player of Grant Williams caliber since he left (or for several years before he started)

This team is good defensively but offensively Barnes has em too worried about shot selection..... Shooters know whats a good shot and what aint... Always gonna make a few but being a good one is confidence and being confident in taking it is trust!.. Barnes wanna pull a guy for his old school approach meanwhile getting beat by non old school

I'm not worried because I'm honestly not expecting that much out of this team. We're an NCAAT team but I'm not expecting to win the SEC or make it far in the NCAAT.
Actually we can be quite good

When I posted that I didn't realize we were without Chandler and Fulkerson

We will easily battle for number one in the SEC.

Damn, I apologize, BHH got 16 minutes, he must have played in the 2nd half. I'm blaming Bob or he just didn't touch the ball or go get his, by grabbing an offensive rebound and a put back.

Sure we can, but will we? We thought early last year we were going to be very good and we ended up pretty meh compared to how we were going to be. And right not I see the same type season happening.

I think he knows Bailey is who he is, but Powell can still grow into a good defender so he’s trying to teach him a lesson. That’s incredibly dumb, reps are going to help more than some psychological fun, plus we have games to win, but that’s the only way I can think that this answer makes any sense
Switching from man to zone only to watch them drain 4 3s at the end after shooting for something awful like 15% all game is inexcusable IMO.

Barnes said that BHH didn’t play second half much because of couple bad passes and lackadaisical plays, and Powell was t locked in defensively. I’m not a coach, but dang I just don’t see where Bailey is that much of a plus over Powell defensively. And with BHH, there comes a point if you want to be the best your team can be, you have to a guy try and learn it in game situations. Uros probably isn’t getting much better offensively at this point, Bailey isn’t going to improve much more defensively or suddenly become a consistent scorer. BHH and Powell on the other hands can improve what they lack defensively while immediately bringing much more offensively. Dang frustrating…

JJJ played like sh!t, tonight. I love the kid, but that was a bad performance, on a big stage, when he needs to step up, at least on the boards (3) and blocks (0). No Fulk, no KC, you don't have to be the leading scorer, just be a talented veteran guy that fills the stat sheet, get your averages, at least

Last years team had very little chemistry and weak point guard play. The pandemic and lack of practice time have been used as reasons. This year we have two excellent point guards...one that should be in his senior year in high school. Chemistry seems better.

We are way more complete this year

Chandler is a game changer

Better shooters across the board

Fulkerson is healthy and playing way better

I guess I got spoiled on Schofield and Company. I also haven't noticed Barnes making poor decisions on defense before.

Heh, I think we all did get a bit spoiled, but we're a fanbase that's been starving (relatively speaking) for basketball success since as long as I can remember so I can understand us developing a bit of a taste after that team (and some of the Pearl teams, too). I mean, growing up, Tennessee basketball was an also-ran my entire childhood. Nobody talked about 'em much, well unless there were pizza fights or snarky coach pressers. But really, I'm not really too fussed about anything from tonight, just using humor to ignore the fact Tennessee let a really important win get away.

Yeah that was bizarre. I liked doing it for a possession or two to throw something at them different, try and get them confused to get some turnovers so the struggling offense could have some transition opportunities. But sticking with it the rest of the game even as Bama figured it out was odd, when we were doing a really solid job defending them all night till the end of the game

I also get he wanted to protect Santi and ZZZ from fouling out but I don’t get coaches constantly handicapping themselves to prevent a player fouling out. Play to get a lead that will prove insurmountable if that player or players do(es) foul out. Don’t tie one hand behind your back just to prevent being FORCED to have one hand tied behind your back. This applies to playing a zone to prevent fouling but especially pulling a player for two early fouls. Alabama left in Quinerley at one point with three fouls for a while and had they pulled him then they’d have lost

Putting aside my “Barnes isn’t good in March” takes, I’m not quite ready to give up with Chandler. I still think he can lead UT to success in March.

My earliest sports memories are like 2006 ish so I’ve been really cursed as far as football goes but relatively blessed for basketball

I'm trying the George Constanza approach; if I expect nothing perhaps something special will happen.

Hasn't worked for football yet, though it kinda did this year.

When you lose a game that was close and one in which you had a chance to win, unfortunately sometimes it's human nature to pick out a play, player, or coach that didn't live up to our expectations.
Just food for thought...coach Barnes has had five players drafted into the NBA in his five years at Tennessee In the 20 years before coach Barnes, Tennesse had five players drafted in the NBA.

Oh wow, you came in and lit the match with your basketball journey. I'm a little jealous - Lofton and friends were just superb. My formative years were Wade Houston years, so, yeah ... not at all as fun. I hope you get to experience a football or basketball run like our football program had in the 90s, I really do. Every fall was four straight months of snorting pure, uncut college sports supremacy. Not the cheap stuff, I mean the "every ESPN news story mentions Tennessee" bangers. That's the real stuff right there.

Yeah man, my two favorite basketball Vols are Chris, who provided my formative memories at a Vol fan, and Admiral, who provided great memories during my first two years as a student at UT. Grew up in Memphis though so the 1 v 2 game was just nirvana for a young Tennessee fan

But yeah I’m the curse in football. Last game Tennessee played before I was born was the national championship. Haven’t won so much as an SEC championship while I’ve been alive. My four years on campus we went 20-27 (10-24). Never beat any of the big three, were 2-2 against Vanderbilt and Kentucky, lost to GA State. I go to grad school somewhere else this year and the football program and Lady Vols both take off so we should be back to dominance soon in those sports but the basketball program may fall off any day now

I hear you. For a while we had not beaten the gators in football since the last UT-UF game before I was hired. Started thinking that the administration would figure that out and kick me out (even though I had tenure). Was relieved when we finally prevailed that one time in 2016.

There are an awful lot of students who have come through during the "bad luck" years, so I think you're off the hook.
