You know BVS is real when you use Cuonzo Martin’s tenure here as a positive comparison to Barnes.I’d expect wins sure, but if we are gonna pay him top 5 money I’d like to not be down 23 in a top 25 matchup.
Cuonzo has made as many sweet sixteens as Barnes as and did in half the time
Barnes is better than Cuonzo sure, but bringing up Cuunzo or Green just shows that it isn’t that hard we can get coaches that can get similar results.
I don’t care what he makes. If he made 100k, everyone would still expect wins. I don’t pay it.
I’ve never said he’s a special coach. He has some flaws. But some of you guys in here use the end to justify the means. You don’t care for Barnes, so you use some BS about some of our other coaches who were awful. Using Cuonzo Martin to compare with Barnes is asinine. Not even close.
The conflicting Barnes narratives on here are very entertaining. You have one crowd that believes Barnes is elite and should never, ever be criticized. Then you have another crowd that grasps for any reason at all to criticize him. Today was a great day for the latter group because they had plenty of reason to bash Barnes and bring up his salary (one of their favorite talking points) and in some cases call for his retirement.
Bottom line is Barnes is a good not great coach. To me, if he continues to have good not great results (consistent NCAA Tournament appearances, consistent 20~ win seasons), then I say let him retire here. I really don't expect much more from this program beyond that. Some may disagree and that's fine.
