The Official #17 Tennessee vs. #5 Villanova Game Thread, 1:00 PM ET, ESPN News

Barnes “ you better play D” philosophy is getting old. You better be able to shoot the dang ball or you get beat by 20+ points vs. good teams.
Chandler, Powell, and V can all shoot well. Part of our issue today is we were just off but we also had a lot of 3s taken by people other than those guys and the ones those 3 shot weren’t great looks a lot of the time.

I think if we played them again, we'd do much better. Bad start-- getting a charging foul on Chandler, and it just wasn't our day.

Players are fine…KC, Vescovi, Powell, and sometimes Bailey are capable. We just will have games where shooting is poor.
So we got really 3 decent shooters ? That is not enough to make one change up the offense to depend on the 3 ball. This is what you are going to get this year. One player hitting and the other 2 or 3 not. My biggest problem with Barnes is how he sticks with JJJ no matter what and he sucks.

I seen nothing from BHH today.

Looked lost on offense and was getting abused on defense.

Definitely needs a lot of improvement.
He wasn’t good today but I think he’ll get better over the course of the season. That’s why I’d rather BHH play over ON and Aidoo over Uros. The older players may be better rn by they are who they are, the younger two could improve. Also Mashack should be over Bailey, and I think Mashack is simply better than Bailey rn

I was fine with this logic until we got serious and decide to commit serious money (and White is also going to commit resources now as well) a couple years ago. This whole never win in the postseason, 20-22 wins a year type seasons aren’t acceptable when you’re a top 5 paid coach.
Nope, in this forum you arent allowed to criticize Barnes. He walks on water.

Mashack is definitely better than Bailey.

Bailey is either hot or cold.

We got schooled today by a better, quicker, and more experienced team. We just need to learn from it, and keep moving forward. It is VERY early in the season. Our point guard is a FRESHMAN. Give it time.

Good game to learn from, Santi seemed the only one there to play today.

Young team, let’s see how they respond. Can’t shoot 15% from 3 and expect to compete.

Pretty stupidly small sample size, but just to make our point
Bailey today, in 23 minutes: 2 points (1/5), 1 rebound, 0 assist, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 1 turnover
Mashack today, in 5 minutes: 2 points (1/2), 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 1 block, 0 turnovers

I'm not a Barnes basher by any means, but the thing that really concerns me is that he's been striking out on recruiting recently, too. There's a very good chance that this year's squad is the most talented roster he's going to have the rest of his time here, and after today's performance....

At least Barnes broke a record today. Our 15 first half points were the least points in a half since 1996 vs, KY. CRB, turning a wreck into a check.

Agree, this should give the coaches plenty of ammunition to show the players how much they have to improve to be good team. Now they can stay on them in practice and maybe they listen.

Huge step back from ON today. Yikes
I have been saying optimism on him was way too high after he beat up on some terrible teams. He’s improved, but just very slightly, and not to the point where I wouldn’t prefer to let BHH play more minutes than him and see what he (BHH) can develop into

We also got completely out coached by an elite coach. Too bad we settle for mediocre with our basketball program.
