We started two 5 star players and scored 15 points in a half. I think it’s times to stop blaming players and start looking at coaching. We have talent but getting not results. Do we have a coach that can adapt to what his players strengths are or is he just too stubborn to change his philosophy?

A lot of it is orange colored nostalgia. Basketball was fun under Pearl but here he had a lot of the same problems Barnes had, his teams didn't show up in the postseason. His Elite 8 team was actually a surprise considering that SECT we got curb stomped by Kentucky. People don't seem to remember there was a TON of complaining about Pearl not winning in the postseason and wondering if he had peaked before he had the unexpected E8 run.

The funny thing about that 31-5 team that was maybe the best team ever at UT was people rememer that Memphis game but not how badly the season ended, and by people that don't seem to realize that a regular season game does't mean more than a Sweet 16 game.

Yep. I love Pearl for what he did for this program as much as anybody.. But I also remember all the bad. That's probably because I was in middle school during his best years.. an my middle school math teacher was a UK grad. We still talk to this day every time UT or UK have a game on. He reminds me often of Pearl's downsides.

I mean fair point. UCLA did screw us with the offer. And IDK if we could find something better than Barnes. And it’s game 3. Outside of missing the tourney this year I’m fine with another year (though Danny White’s hiring track record is phenomenal).
But when we decided to match all I heard was how this was great. Shows we are serious about basketball, recruiting will improvise, we are the taking the right steps to becoming an elite program. And since the Purdue game in 2019 it’s been constant disappointment.

I do think it showed we were serious about basketball in that it showed we'll pay for a coach. I'm hoping if it doesn't pay off for Barnes then at least it will be something we can point to when it's time to replace him and are courting guys that are worth that money. The bummer will be if either no one bites or we go back to a Cuonzo Martin type hire.

Pearl did great things here but a lot of his doings were selfish and only wanted to save his own a$$ from getting caught over the barbecue.

Getting recruits’ families involved to lie for him showed me his true colors as a person.

Again, the act was minor but he didn’t help his own cause.

35 minutes on Fulk and he’d be dead after a game and a half. Give JJJ those 10 minutes at the 4 and then I’d be satisfied with what you laid out

Ive been there. I hate Barnes offense, hes allowing guys to shoot more threes but we set no screens for our shooters and our ball movement was slow. Barnes version of getting shooters open is having them take 3 shuffle steps to the side.

Pearl was just 4-9 against UK at UT and 3 of the wins were against Tubby Smith and Billy Gillespie. He only beat Cal once.

Understandable. I think he was definitely pressing today trying to make something happen, but I think when he’s playing within himself he is still a worthwhile contributor to this team. And somebody needs to guard the other teams best player and nobody else on the team is there

Nova coach Jay Wright: Kennedy Chandler is good. Really, really good. And he’s competitive. He’s not a showman. He’s just compeitive. I was worried about him.

UT's starting frontcourt took 4 shots, today. 4 shots, 4 points, 1 block and 10 rebounds combined from Fulk and Olivier. That's your 6tth year senior and a junior. Barnes just praised Olivier's play and blamed the guards on the radio

I agree with that. James is definitely the best defender on the team
