The Official 2014 Offseason Thread

The context of the discussion is whether these guys want to play basketball or do other things. Jordan wanted to do other things. Welcome to the conversation.

He also quit when he was 34. He didn't want to play that badly. Something tells me Lebron wants to play longer than that. Maybe that's why he's asking for less games in a season and then he gets more years in. He's going to end up playing 30% more games, probably.

Counting injuries is stupid, IMO. It's a wash.

How exactly do you figure this? He played every game of an 82 game season for the Wizards the year he turned 40.

I do agree that counting injuries is immaterial to this conversation though.

What do you mean? He quit. Yeah, he came back, but that doesn't mean he didn't quit. Lebron wants to play less games...and then come back the next season. How do people figure that he doesn't want to play in comparison to MJ? I'm just holding MJ to the same standard he and fans are holding LBJ to.

Playing 82 games is not the only way to express your desire to play basketball. Playing 12 consecutive seasons is one way to express your desire to play basketball. Quitting basketball twice is a way to express your lack of desire for playing basketball. Just like asking for less games in a season.

The real difference is that MJ actually did stop playing. Lebron is just talking about it, but he will continue to play.

I think you're badly misinterpreting (there's a shocker) what MJ did.

What he did is stop playing basketball.

It's not as if I'm trying to get in his head and make assumptions as to why. All we know is he wanted to do something else. I'm making a very safe assumption. If he wanted to play basketball, he would have played basketball.

What's to misinterpret? I'm keeping it simple. I can't believe we're still talking about this.

Suns owner has apologized for what they saw with spurs key players being benched and said please send your envelope to him so he can give them a return I'm assuming regular season tickets. Topnotch move by the suns owner indeed.

Bulls win a nailbiter with butler making a last second shot to win for the bulls. I know it's preseason but still damn exiting.

Best part of that article is the response to Byron Scott saying he wants to have about 15 3 point attempts per game:

First of all, that's nuts. Last year, only the Grizzlies took fewer than 15 threes a game (14 per game) and that's only because a) the Grizzlies have Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol and play a post-heavy style that results in the slowest pace in the league, and b) no one on the Grizzlies could throw a basketball into a black hole from 24 feet, let alone an NBA-regulation hoop.

Hopefully they rest him night to night. But I don't know if they can afford to sit him for much time. I hate their lineup.

I didn't see the whole list, but don't they have Rose pretty high? I'm almost more confident in Kobe coming back than DRose

Rose, Kobe and Rondo being on the list is a joke, actually playing should be a requirement.

i kinda agree but at the same time i dont. id have no problem with them having Paul George on the lest next year. maybe not have Rose because hes missed 2 years, but hes still definitely a top 50 player.

A joke might be a little harsh. I always look at this lists like who am I building my team around. I might put them on it but very low, maybe 48-50 just because we don't know what they will be next year.

I got no reason to believe Rondo won't be to 50, but with Kobe's age and with how Rose has looked when he did actually play in the last couple years, I think they're both pretty questionable.

Yeah, his health is definitely concern, but just rating them on their games. I think Rondo has been able to bounce back from his injuries and play well. Rose looked horrible up until FIBA, and I didn't find his play that convincing.

I think Rondo is a little overrated to begin with. Factor in injury issues and questionable chemistry with other players (if Ray Ray hates you, you have a problem. Also rumors that Doc and Ray both were tired of dealing with him) if I'm a GM I'm taking 12-15 other PGs before him next year.
