I'm looking to settle on a self defense round for my sig p226. How many rounds do you guys typically cycle through at the range before you are comfortable it will be reliable for HD use (this will be the night stand gun)

At least a couple hundred rounds.

Edit.
Malfunctions aren't a deal breaker, you just need to know how to deal with them. All guns will malfunction, as you never know the environment you will be facing when you have to use it.

Most modern loads are going to be pretty reliable. But I'd stick to known brands or those used by LE Agencies like Federal or Remington.

I go at least a hundred rounds personally.

And the the brands I'd recommend would be:

Remington Golden Saber

Federal HST

Winchester Ranger

Not in any particular order.

what would the custom work, on one of those FN cost, if I picked one up and sent it in...

I saw a browning Hi-power, in Cabela's gun library a couple of weeks ago and it was north of a grand..

They had a CZ-75 in there for around $400, just wondering if getting the FN and sending it in is a better option than picking up the CZ

Sending one in to cylinder & slide or novak will be expensive. But, as you know, they do very high quality work. I'd probably buy the base gun from aim and send it in.

Here are the packages c&s offers.
