The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

4 or 5. Very simple process

So no bad experiences with sellers? Also one question. Do I need to contact my ffl dealer before or after the deal or does the seller send them the info and the ffl just contacts me when they receive the gun?

You should contact your ffl to make sure they accept guns from individuals if that's the case and if you aren't sure what they charge. You can also pick one on the site. You should communicate with both the seller and the ffl to make sure things go as planned. I've bought two used guns off Gunbroker and it worked great.

You in Chattanooga?

Well crap
I have a guy in Chattanooga.

Yea I have a few around me just was wanting clarification on the process. Wasn’t sure if or when I contact them in the process or if the sellers handles that part after I identify the FFL I want it delivered to.

Question for the people who own AR Rifles. What’s your preferred barrel length? Mine is currently an 18 inch barrel, 1:8 twist. I’m thinking about downsizing to a 16 inch, maybe even to a lighter barrel to reduce weight. I normally just target shoot.

None so far, no.

Luckily the dealer I use was already able to be selected on Gun Broker

16. I don't really see a need to go longer on an AR-15 unless you're down range.

I have two 16 inch AR’s with a 1/9 twist, and one 11.5 inch AR with a 1/7 twist. For my one in nine’s, I can shoot anything up to 69 grains accurately, with 62 grains seeming to be the sweet spot. For the one in seven, it will shoot anything up to 77 grains accurately, with 69 grains seeming to be the sweet spot. The 11.5” AR is very easy to bring on target rapidly. Personally, I would go with a one in seven twist. Gives you the broadest range of ammo it will shoot accurately.

16 or shorter. Obviously to go under 16 you have to go pistol (arm brace), SBR (tax stamp), or you could go 14.5 and have the flashhider/brake permanently affixed to the barrel.

I like the 1:8 twist as an all around gun. Does well on heavier and lighter projectiles.

I neglected to add that my AR’s are for defensive purposes only. Therefore, I generally shoot barrier blind bonded soft point bullets (62-75 grain), or 69 grain Sierra Match King‘s or Tipped Match Kings for longer range accuracy. I do run 55 FMJ’s out of my 16 inchers for practice.

Depends on distance. If you are mostly shooting inside 100 yards, 16 will serve you fine. The further out you want to reach, the more you will appreciate a couple more inches.

A 1/8 should be okay for most things.

1/7 is kind of the "universal" twist that'll handle everything from 52 to 77 grain pills.

1/9 twist is useless unless you just like weird Colts and other substandard rifles because of the name on the lower.

I'd look at a mid length Recce type for 16 inch target shooting.

Ouch. I’m glad you’re back, but dang.

FYI, Internet AR-15 guru Molon did state that the AR6721 barrel was the most accurate 1/9 off the shelf barrel he has ever tested.

I feel the same way about Daniel Defense. Good rifles, but way overpriced.

Well, completed my first (quite minor) gunsmithing job... Pushed and filed the mag tabs, installed a Tacstar carbon fiber extension, follower, and Streamlight forend. XS big dot sight. I like it.

Shouldn't be any reason to put the old spring holder (seen just above the barrel end) back in, right?IMG_20201007_205629666.jpg

Hmmm.... Don’t think I’ve ever had that problem with my weird Colts. Must have something to do with the way they engrave the name on the lower.

😎

That's because you've never had to work on a large hole Colt...

The funny saying in the gun community is about H&K with "you suck and we hate you." Colt really put that into practice from time to time.
