The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

I’m in the spot now where I imagine a lot of people wind up where I am weighing whether I really want to spend the money on a FN collectible or buy a new DSA. So much conflicting info on DSA. The other option is to try and get a SA 48 or 4800 off one of the auction sites, which would probably be a little more than DSA but still a hell of a lot less than FN. I will probably see if anything shakes loose at MTMC show Easter weekend and then turn to online.

*TMCA show.
You can still find some kits out there to build yourself or have it built.

This ole boy was one of the better FAL guys around back in the day.

Good luck.

Quick question, for Palmetto customers:

At my suggestion, a friend ordered a couple of build kits at crazy good prices. He received only complete uppers today. In my last order, everything was in one box. Has anyone seen kits arrive with the upper and all the build parts/ furniture in separate boxes?

Always arrived all in one box for me. I haven't bought any of their kits in well over a year though so maybe they've started shipping things separately.

Good luck calling and trying to get someone to answer.

I've had a few things that were backordered that came separately. And if memory serves, the last order I did from them had two boxes. That was over a year ago and I honestly don't remember.

Thanks guys. He actually is from SC and has a friend with a brother who works for PSA. I told him to see if another shipment comes tomorrow, and if not, reach out to him. I'll be doing three builds with him. Funny, I've had nothing but great service from the company.

I finally got to give my shorty AR build a run and zero session last weekend, and it ran very well. 50 yards only, but no issues and super- tight groups. Insanely good pricing.

I also finally shot my SKS refurbish. I was very surprised with how little recoil the larger caliber produced, I guess due to the heavier mass of the rifle. It was tight, too, but I need to get the tool to adjust the front sight.

Took my new to me 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger Precision out to the range last weekend for a test drive. Used factory ammo and it was kind of windy, but was able to get 3.6" - 4.4" five shot groups at 300 yds. Nothing special but I was pleased. First time I've ever shot longer than 100 yds. The Vortex Viper PST 5-25 scope is orders of magnitude better than anything I've ever used before. You can now call me a convert to the "Buy once Cry once" crowd on glass. Still have to convert the mrads in my head, but I think I'm going to like this gun. Would like to work up a ladder test, but at 300 yards I've only got about 5" drop between min and max load. Pic of the gun and my best group of 3.6" with 8 shots. The pic is from a Targetvision 300 yd Longshot camera. It has some really nice features. Anyway, lots of new things to play with. 😁

Ruger just makes a good gun. Can't beat them for the price and they have never give me any issues.

Penance time:

I've been off and on over the years cleaning my guns and keep them, for the most part, in great shape. But yesterday, I took apart my Ruger 10/22 for the first time ever (got it in the 80s) and thoroughly cleaned it. Always kept the barrel cleaned and would clean the external parts of the receiver and bolt, but just never took it apart. It was embarrassing. Gun has thousands of rounds through it and still accurate as hell, shooting nice groups.

I beg VolNation's forgiveness.

On a lighter note, my Ruger Single-Six added a skunk to it's tally over the weekend. So that is 1 moose, 1 skunk, several cottonmouths/rattlesnakes, a few Norwegian wharf rats and one large cotton bollworm.

Cleaning guns is overrated. If they're running fine don't mess with them.

Love the single six. Would not hike without it.

There is nothing like cocking it. My Dad bought it in 1958 while in the Army in Alaska. It was the first gun I ever shot. And this past weekend, my Dad was here when my grandson shot a gun for the first time, that same Single Six.
