The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Saw the posts about the SR22. I've been meaning to buy a 22/45 Lite but the dearth of 22 ammo made ita low priority item. Has anyone compared the two? Speaking of 22 lr pistols in general, I've always considered the Buckmark to be about the best non competition pieces available but that opinion is admittedly based on shooting done two decades ago.

I can just chime in about the SR22 - it is what it is; a semiauto in .22lr. So it's not a bullseye gun and .22lr isn't great for a semi-auto as weak loads may not rack the slide with enough force and of course FTFire issues.

That said, the SR22 seems to get the best marks for being the least finicky with ammo and it's just fun to shoot cuz it's just like a regular polymer pistol in looks and function.

The only problem I have is FTFeed when I fully load the mag (10 rds). It regularly won't feed the next round. If I only put 9 rds in then it generally works like a charm unless you get a bad round.

Fun little gun for the range and would be great for all day plinking.

So...after discussing the RIA 9mm 1911s, that led back me to something I had read about awhile back and had kinda forgotten.

Anybody every fooled with Armscor's .22TCM round?

I had decided I'd look into it after it had been out for awhile. I'm usually not fond of oddball, mutt rounds but 17 rounds at 2000fps has me listening. Several of the reviews I've read are fairly positive.

Also, I'll probably end up with one of their compact 1911s. Thanks, jerks. I had made it a couple months without buying anything.

Seems awfully close to them having their own take on the 5.7x28. Nothing wrong with that I suppose but the latter is much more established.

Thats basically what it is.

RIA's 1911 is cheaper than an FN (I'm not wild about the Masterpiece Arms stuff) up front but the already mentioned ammo limitations shade it a bit.

My uncle has a Five-Seven. Its, uh, mean... to say the least.

It's more of a target and varmint round than anything. Ballistics are going to be comparable to the 5.7x28 which isn't exactly saying nice things. The 5.7 is about like a .22 Mag in ballistics so...

If you're looking for a range toy, it's probably okay. Small game hunting? Not a bad choice. For a self defense pistol? Stick with proven calibers.

You know how it goes...

Worst hobby in the world for saving money.

Well, golf might be worse.

No, most golfers get a set of clubs and keep them for at least a few years. Box of balls every so often.

Firearms collecting is far, far worse lol

Its funny. I grew up around guns. Dad, both grandfathers, and uncles were always buying, trading, etc. Almost all worked at places with bunch of other gun people so things were always moving. Needless to say, I knew what I was getting into when I mowed a bunch of yards and bought a 10/22 when I was 12.

My best friend never touched a gun until I showed him a junky old Astra I traded an old pushmower for when I was working at an auto parts store. We were both freshmen at UT. He asked if he could shoot it so I took him to the range and let him try it and an old Chief's Special. Fast forward about 10 years to today and he's about to go buy a 40 gun safe to make more room.

Every time he buys something he says "Why couldn't you just get me to like fishing?"

This. You can never have enough. A couple years ago I made my wife a list of just rifles that I wanted by caliber and model. It was enough to cover Christmas, Birthday, and Anniversary presents for 30 + years. It did not have too many repeating calibers and quite a few were pretty obscure. Needless to say she laughed at me. I told her my handgun list was next...

Traveling question: I am moving back to CA and take off this Friday. I have a TN Handgun Carry Permit and from my research I can carry loaded in my vehicle across the country, until I get to CA. Anyone traveled or live in any of these states: AR, OK, TX, NM, AZ that could advise if I'll have any issues, or any other special requirements?

Do you typically travel loaded? If not, why not just pack everything away.

Won't have any issues:

Just make sure you declare if you get pulled over for some reason.

Has anyone removed the ten round clip off of their sks and replaced it with a larger cap mag? I've read that some parts might have to be filed down to make it fit. Wondering if it's worth it.

It's not cheap but the parts are easy to come by:

Shoot, enjoy the finer things in life, never look back.

:)

In seriousness, I've heard the modifications to accept higher round mags do not work as well as advertised. One of those design things. It was designed with a ten round clip and dicking around with modifications leads to serious reliability issues.

Yes, once they ease up on the restrictions. They are dropping the good cause requirement.

Still "may issue" I see.

Perhaps with that ****stain Lee out of the Senate banging the gun control drums all the time, the restrictions will ease up a bit more.
