The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Picked up a very nice custom built AR-15 last weekend. I'll try and get the specs listed out but it's very nice and pretty too. :)

I'll have pics this weekend. Hopefully do some shooting this weekend too.

It's a 16" Wilson 1/7 416 stainless barrel with standard A2 muzzle device, midlength gas system, Midwest Industries SS Gen 2 free float handguard, FA profile MPI/HPT BCG, ALG Defense QMS trigger, B5 Sopmod Bravo stock, BCM Mod 4 charging handle, H buffer and 7076 RE, BCM Mod 0 grip, Magpul MBUS front and rear sights.

Not that I know anything about that particular rifle :)

I'm hunting optics now. I'm wanting a dual purpose set up. I want to shot 300 yards or 50 yards in a split second. Grandvol has been kind enough to email me some literature and links to some great optics. Just can't make up my mind.

I'd almost say wait for September...

And jump on it when it becomes available. They sell out quick.

Lulz

You must have hacked my email. :)

That's what I'm inclined to do, but damn., I want to shoot it.

Iron sights my friend. They work very well.

Or that Strikefire in the meantime while you wait. Nobody says you can't have multiple optics and a return to zero can be done depending on the mount.

Not sure what all he gave you but I have an EOTech and I love it. I'm also not going all the way out to 300 yards though. Good luck!

I suggested:

Aimpoint Pro
EOTech 512
Vortex Strikefire
Vortex SPARC and SPARC II
for the red dot

Vortex 2-7 variable
Primary Arms 1-4 variable
Primary Arms 1-6 variable with ACSS reticle
for the variables.

Aimpoint T-1 Micro
EOTech EXPS 3-0
for breaking the bank

Feel free to add more suggestions. I don't have the cornerstone on this subject.

My marine buddy says iron sights or gtfo. 500 meters on the money. I just don't think I have that kind of skill.

Irons are easy out to 300 depending on the target size.

Time, practice and patience

Fair enough.

Guess I got spoiled to driving nails with my browning 270 short mag.

My last AR I was efficient with. But it was with a typical 3x9x40 Burris scope. I want something different. Just in case the zombies come.

This is a pretty good list. I've only heard great things from EOTech and Aimpoint owners. That's where I would look first if I were shopping around.

It's what I have on my SHTF carbines.

But...I know some folks work inside of budgets and that Vortex SPARC is actually a pretty good little RDS for the money.

I have the EOTECH 512 on Colt M4, and have an issue with it interfering with the fronts site, and I added a spacer on the rail

I'm impressed with this gun.

Granted the groups are at 25 yards. But I'm happy with it. Looks as if though I'll have to do it again though. Seems the ideal sighting needs to be done at 50 yards. At 50 yards you are in the kill zone of your target from 25 yards to 300 yards. POA=POI if followed correctly.

I put a cheap BSA tactical red dot on it for now. Ill pick up the one I want in September when it comes out. Then I'll put this cheapo on my sons 22.

Rained all day so I couldn't mow so I cleaned every pistol in the safe.

Either I'm mixing it up with another brand in my memory...or American Eagle has gotten to be downright nasty.

500 meter is not impossible or even improbable.

I have a 1911 model .British 303 with iron sights to 2,000 yds. A gallon jug full of water at 600 meters is a no brainer. Of course my being trained from age 5 by Grandfather and uncle and my father who were all qualified expert by the army from WWI through the korean conflict several metals (bronze, silver and purple)spread out through that lot as well.

Listen don't under estimate your skill. If nothing else watch some youtube and go to the range. Then repost in say a month.

500 meters isn't too hard to do at all. I was in the Marine Corps and that's one of the distances we Qual'd at.

2/2 at 800 meters during an unknown distance course was the shots I was proudest of. Granted it was with an ACOG. Still nothing special I don't think.

On another note, I've bought a T53, a Glock 20, and a new buttstock and Fortis foregrip for my AR. I need to stop for a while.

Thanks guys.

Any opinion on the 50 yard method?

How To Zero Your AR-15 Rifle | The Arms Guide

I've always done the 25 yard thing with my deer rifles. ( 30-06/ 270 short mag/ etc. ) it always worked. Apparently the 223/5.56 flies differently.

This is pretty technical and ammo dependent, but it's one of the best you can find.

AR-15 Zeros and Trajectories

ETA: Typically (ammo dependent again) 25 meters gets you a 25/300 meter zero with about 8 inches of rise in between. 50 gets you a 50/200 with about 3 inches of rise.
