The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

So glad I found the pub. Seems to be my style.

I had wanted a Sig P229 for the longest time, so when I found a great deal on buds I pulled the trigger.

Hope the picture posts.

That does look like a Sauer and Sohn. Have you ever shot it? Do you have to use the old style shells? Show a picture of the butt plate.

I have not shot it, barrel has a nitro stamped into it and some say its ok to shoot. Others say domascus barrel and do not use new ammo... i am confused! I will post a pick of the butt plate when i get back home.

I have both the short reach and short reset trigger on my p226 and it is awesome.

Second best trigger in my small collection (Walter PPQ is the best)

This is exactly what I got (but much cheaper)

Sig Sauer E29R-9-BSS-TAC-L P229 TacPac-L 15+1 9mm 3.9"

Doesn't mention an SRT. I've been tripped up by the reset before so that would be really nice.

From the picture you probably don't have the SRT since it typically comes with the short reach trigger which is considerably thinner. You don't have to have both but I think they generally pair them from the factory.

This is what the short reach trigger looks like

Dude what's going on with the PPk?? I've got a ppks .380 in stainless, but I went to a few local gun shops to order a black PPk and none of them could find one and we were told they're discontinued!?! WTH is going on with Walther?!

Hadn't heard but Smith and Wesson makes the PPK under license from Walther.

Always wanted one but have heard they are pretty finicky

I've also heard that. Problem is, I'm not sure anyone saying such things have actually had one. I have one and personally I love it. It's ammo picky, but I can live with it.

Mine is made by S&W but from what I've been told, the ppk is discontinued. Any suggestions on how to "black" my stainless?

My suggestion is don't even think about blacking a stainless.

I really like the .380 blowback style. I have a Sig p232 and a Bersa Thunder .380 (both PPK clones of sort).

Will probably add a PPK and also would like a Beretta 85 FS and CZ-83.

I also have a Thunder .380 and that piece is awesome. Shoots dirt ammo and has never jammed on me. I've often said if I had to grab one of my guns quickly and use it...I'd probably pick up the Bersa over the Walther. It is a solid gun.

But yea, some lady at the gun shop was telling me about some process of blacking the gun that some guy there does but I didn't pursue it, thinking it would end up looking like a$$. I really want a black ppk or ppks though, and not that .22lr garb. I had one of those and got rid of it after it tore up several times.

Yes, I wouldn't shoot anything in it unless you've had an experienced gunsmith look at it and what ammo is required.

As I understand it, the .32ACP PPK was discontinued a few years ago around the time Walther and S&W split their main partnership and Umarex/Walther created Walther Arms to handle US distribution/importation of Walther firearms. Before that, S&W handled all of that stuff... before that it was Interarms. S&W still holds the sole license to manufacture the PPK/S though, so they are still making the .22lr and .380 versions today. I have not heard of a discontinuation. They are still listed on the walther arms site.

Walther's recent history is hard to follow. All I know is some of the German made pistols and parts are sometimes hard to find since they are imported in small infrequent batches. I've been waiting a year on a simple $15 piece of plastic grip extension for my P99c so I can use full size mags.

I know it says they're still in production, but I'm not sure I believe them. Cabelas, Gander Mtn, Bass Pro, etc etc are all "sold out". Even the Walther website can't direct you to a PPK for sale. The link is below. When you click "buy" or whatever, the only gun available is a .22lr.

I did a little digging on the Walther Forums and it looks like the PPK/S is in limbo right now. I guess the S&W license expired and Walther is figuring out which vendors are going to be involved with future production. It sounds like S&W will still be involved to some degree. The PPK/S .22 is still available because it is being produced in Umarex facilities in Germany alongside the P22 and PK380 and maybe a few others.

You should still be able to find a S&W one new though. It may require some digging. Otherwise, I'd try to find an older used Interarms marked one.

He took me shopping. Bought my present. Forgot to check this thread. But looks like y'all know what you're talking about.
