The Official #4 Tennessee vs. #10 Texas - Battle for the Real UT - Game Thread, 6:00 PM ET, ESPN

Right, and it was really just the second half.

He got beat on a back cut for a layup. Beat off the dribble by Carr for a basket. Allowed an offensive rebound for bad positioning, and had some fouls to stay in front of Carr that caused him to foul out. Uncharacteristic for him but as you said. It’s a testament to how solid a defender he is.
Carr was 4-12 overall and 1-6 from 3. I’m okay with that.

ZZ keeps getting better. If we could get Phillips scoring 8-15 points a game, then we can beat anyone. Our defense is becoming elite, but come tournament time, we could get in foul trouble just like we did against Kentucky. Refs call the game closer in tournaments. When the defense falls back in a tournament game, can we out score a team when they are hitting everything?? That’s the million dollar question.

Tonight was a great sign that our offense won’t be as susceptible to bad outside shooting nights costing us as in years past. Last year, we weren’t getting near the inside play we are now. ON is a legit scoring threat down low. JJJ scored midrange and at the bucket. Plav has shown that he can score down low…as has Awaka when he’s gotten in the game.

Tennessee was only 6-19 from 3 tonight, but controlled the entire game against a top 10 team. That’s a GREAT sign. I agree that Phillips becoming more of a threat would really make this team elite on the offensive end. But I think he’ll continue to grow.

70% chance Phillips returns next year

I could be wrong, but I replayed that back cut play 3 times and it appeared to me that Vescovi noticed the guy breaking lose and left the guy he was guarding attempting to pick up the shooter?

It’s entirely possible it wasn’t his man. It was a bang, bang play and it looked like it was his man that got loose. But I haven’t replayed it.

That and ZZ has shown a propensity for getting the opportune layup inside.

That’s good to hear. I couldn’t really tell on TV.

Student section was fired up and the entire arena was making sure that the refs knew where they were during that run when the refs essentially went to sleep.

It was a good environment tonight for sure - loud and at times electric. Was happy to see it, we sometimes will have snoozers at home where everyone seems to be sitting on their hands in the lower bowl.
