The Official #6 Tennessee @ #9 Arizona Game Thread, 10:30 PM ET, ESPN2

It was amazing we were even in that game looking at box score. I rarely complain about officials but from start to finish that was downright negligence. Regardless, we can defend and play with just about anyone but our offense will never be good enough to beat multiple teams in consecutive games. It isn’t just the fact that we don’t shoot a decent percentage, in crucial moments we don’t execute at all. ZZ was amazing. Barnes lost confidence in bench and I think tired legs showed up in final minutes.

I would have gone completely off the rails at the very end if I were Barnes, just to make a point.
If he didn't say much the entire game to that crew, he does deserve blame. Look at the 1st half numbers alone.
What, were the refs afraid of the crowd ??????

It was pretty obvious at the end Rick was giving them the business the Christian way

If anything, I tend to observe that getting a T makes the refs *less* favorable to you. You give away free points and gain nothing most of the time.

I would love to see some hard evidence that a coach getting a T for complaining to the refs actually ends up helping the team, especially as a road team. If anything it's usually when the coach has had enough and getting T'ed up is just a way to say "F U" to the refs.

No they aren’t. They’ll be out in the the second round.

I mean, anything can happen, but they will likely be a 1 or 2 seed and certainly have the potential to be a final 4 team. Not many teams are equipped to handle their two bigs and are going to be a problem for most teams. We have a decent rotation to challenge them, but the foul calls didn't go our way and our bigs found a way to all get in foul trouble.

It ain’t my money so it is easy for me to say this, but just once I’d like to see some fire from Rick in the post-game press conference about poor officiating. Might cost him $25,000 but that’s a drop in the bucket of his salary. Defend your guys. That is PATHETIC officiating tonight. Arguably way more one-sided than the game in Knoxville last year people were complaining about.

I’m normally not one to say a lot about officiating, I referee myself and it’s a tough job. But this game tonight has been the worst I’ve watched in perhaps ever.

I appreciate Barnes out there right now, but too little, too late.
So, when one of the coaches berates you do you start calling the game in his favor? Seems like the consensus here is we wouldn’t get bad calls if our coach would constantly scream at the officials?

Barnes let his team get railroaded and waited until the outcome was already determined to do or say anything about it.

I have a problem with that..... It'd been better to say or do nothing at all.

Do you have a special camera feed that showed Barnes and who he was talking to the whole game? Just say you hate Rick Barnes it would be easier.

We could have won before that end sequence where Ballo made both FTs, I agree with the decision. Once you’ve had that happen that late, there’s like no way a ref is going to make a critical call against you so best not to draw a tech till 6 seconds left
My point is to hammer them 30 min earlier. I’m not referring to the SV foul specifically. The 6 second mark is when he finally showed some emotion towards them at all.

Great effort. I'm encouraged honestly. There was obviously a determined effort by three guys in strips that we not win that game, so I'm looking to process rather than results. Team is good enough as is to win 25+ and a double bye in the SEC tourney. If two of three of Vescovi getting healthy, James getting healthy, or Phillips really developing into a confident scorer, I will feel good about being a second weekend team. Zakai really starting to restablish himself, ON and Uros having more flashes (though still each are good for two or three boneheaded plays a game),

Sort of agree ......... but our team really struggles offensively. The post guys are clumsy and perimeter shooting is not good.

Except that wasn't what he was doing. He was complaining to the refs all night.

Please explain what the hell he's supposed to do short of getting himself thrown out. Which if he had done that and we lose, the same people would b**** how he couldn't keep his cool and got tossed.

As I said in another post, my frustration is getting the best of me. It was terrible and was from the beginning to the end. It’s tough to watch as a fan, and I’m sure doubly so for Barnes.

I wish he had been more animated or at least we were able to see the interactions on the broadcast. Sometimes, a coach getting fired up and skirting that line with the technical can really get something going for the team when they feel everything is stacked against them.

Dude find a different line. Both your general premise (screaming at refs helps the team get better calls) and your minor premise (Barnes wasn't engaging with the refs) are false. Any conclusion that follows is dumb, as are all posts complaining about Barnes not yelling at refs enough

For whatever reason, college coaches have decided to sit idly by and let this happen. The sport has made the decision these guys can do whatever they want, officiate however they want and there’s no repercussions for terrible officiating. And college basketball is dying because of it.

Never thought I’d say this, but think plavsic getting in foul trouble really may have been the difference in the game. Awaka and aidoo were getting worked down low and plavsic was a good matchup against their big.

ON and ZZZ had really good nights. If they do that on a consistent basis we’ll be tough to beat.

What do you guys make of that one ref right in front of Key throwing his hands up in the air after Key got knocked to the floor? It didn't look to be aimed at Key. It was a weird gesture to make in that circumstance.

Bruce Pearl. End of discussion.
