The Official #6 Tennessee @ #9 Arizona Game Thread, 10:30 PM ET, ESPN2

It’s like he’s the one guy you can’t criticize. He didn’t just miss, he clanked it off the backboard. He played terrible offensively, and has for most of the year.

I think Vescovi is a decent player. I don’t think he’s a top 10 team starter. I’ve been overly critical at times but his inconsistency is beyond obvious. Maybe we just don’t have anyone any better.

I don't think people get it. Tennessee couldn't win that game. A FT disparity of 17 is obviously a sign of a predetermined outcome.

If he’s hitting open shots and shooting near 40% from three then I think he’s one of our best all around options. Problem is, he isn’t doing that. Shooting around 25% from three this year. And is no threat to drive past anyone. Meshak is a better option offensively if those numbers continue.

Even his worst game so far he still scored 7 with 7 rebounds 3 assists & 3 steals. Santi isn’t an elite talent or physical freak, so he’s an effort and hustle guy with a good set 3 ball.

But he still contributes in other ways. Phillips (although yes just a freshman) legit has vanished in games, like tonight where he had 2 points and 1 rebound.

The list of Vols to ever have 100 made threes in a season

1. Chris Lofton
2. Santiago Vescovi

We've struck out on some players we needed to hit. What is JJJ's injury?

Tonight was the refs deciding they were going to let the offense play. That's going to happen in the tournament too. We're going to have to figure out some offensive production.

And? Based on his stats it means he’s had to shoot a lot to achieve that because he’s missed way more. He’s less than 30% for the season. Maybe he can bump it up on some of the scrub teams.

I mean…we hit 4 more FGs, 3 more 3s, and shoot a better % from both, still lose by 5.

The refs only let the offense play on one side tonight, it’s frustrating and everyone has a right to be upset.

The legit only area Arizona (not officials) “won” was rebounding.

They called a one hand touch foul on Santi 40 feet from the basket but swallowed the whistle when he got knocked to the ground driving to the hoop.

But his rebounding, steals, and assists are all up from last season too. He’s also averaging more minutes as well.

Santi isn’t going to shoot a high % unless we see an interior post scorer emerge OR someone becomes better at attacking the rim off the dribble.

He was working the refs all night.
There are always quite a few hilarious bad 'takes' by our fans during the games. But the ones about Barnes not taking up for his players or not working the refs are some of my favorites. I literally envision most of them saying that and thinking "yeah if he would work them like I did that ref in our 10U Rec League game" then we would get more calls.

That's kind of what I was getting at. We are a suffocating defense and limited offensively. But the refs took a lot of that away and we struggled offensively tonight. They let the offense play, particularly theirs.

Vescovi is a little more wing and a prayer guy, volume shooter..... Loften was much more of a clutch shooter than Vescovi is iirc.
I mean lofton was one of the most clutch shooters of all time at Tennessee, hard to make that comparison. We need vescovi to get healthy and key to make some more clutch shots.. Z really played well tonight, he’s my favorite vol on this team!

Both teams were awful from the field. They pushed the ball inside way more than we did and got more calls even though the officiating was horrid. It won’t be the first time bad officiating happens this year with us or any other team. Bad officiating is an epidemic all teams will face. Basketball has become a sport that’s hard to watch simply due to bad officiating. I get it in high school and lower because they just let any clown do it. These are suppose to be the best. Not sure what the solution is because there seems to be no accountability.

The poster who brought up Pearl gave the game away. It all comes back to that. He doesn’t scream and carry on like Bruce so they’re upset. That’s all there is to it really

Santi’s definitely shooting worse this season. No arguing that, but the reason is pretty obvious. He’s being asked to do it all and that’s the area that’s suffering most.

JJJ’s injury is why we’re a 2 loss team more than anything else. The good news though is we’re -only- a 2 loss team & both were games played away from TBA. And Arizona needed major help from the officials.

Phillips & Mashack both have to step up, they are the best suited to replace JJJ with their size & physical skill set.

I don't know if that was a foul on Vescovi but it damn show was a foul leveled on Key.
This is absolutely accurate. The SV shot attempt could honestly go either way. And don't think either side would have a legit argument. But the hockey-themed hip check into the boards once Key grabbed the loose ball is a BLATANT foul.
