The Official #6 Tennessee @ Vanderbilt Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, SEC Network

a 1? no way. more like a 3-4.
I mean we were a projected one seed this morning. Now we’re gonna be projected at the top of the second line, either 5th or 6th overall depending on if Florida wins their game.

Y’all gotta realize a Q1 loss is not some death kneel. It’s college basketball. The team ranked directly beneath us in the AP poll lost at home to an Xavier team much worse than Vanderbilt today. Michigan, previously undefeated in conference play, lost at Minnesota, previously winless in conference play, Thursday night. It happens

Leading scorer tonight for the Vols.

As I said, better tonight, but averaging 10.5 points a game for 4 games now. His production was more than double that on average before this down streak. I'm not giving up on him but he needs to figure out what's gotten in his own head.

Since nobody on this board is a basketball player, it really doesn’t matter at all if they can hit a free throw. Since Chaz Lanier is a basketball player and the guy his team leans on as a go to guy, it’s pretty damn important he hits pressure free throws.

Lanier may be in this position again, and it might matter a lot more when he is. Nick Anderson’s entire career trajectory changed based off missing free throws in a big spot. That was a terrible thing to happen to a guy who is trying to come out of a slump, and saying he is better than someone on a message board makes you look ignorant.
Santi was never the same after he missed some free throws.

UT was very fortunate to have a FT to tie the game. Great comeback by UT to have a chance at end. Chaz had two chances in the last five seconds to tie game and failed to do it both times. Looks like he isn’t a clutch player, unfortunately.

Games rarely hinge on the first half… Vandy extended the 6 point halftime lead to 16 with Zakai in, and UT lacked 1 point from going to OT.
Sure, Vandy may have still gone on a run. But surely having Zakai in would’ve made a one point different.

As to your first statement, that’s just obviously wrong. The first half matters just as much as the second half. Second half points don’t count double

Yes but they also aren’t in the SEC where losses can pile up easily. You need to win games against the bottom half and then steal games away against the good squads. This was a win we needed.

Yep. I’m not into moral victories but when the committee does selections it matters. That 30 point loss to Florida is gonna sting us more than this one.
Exactly. There are good losses and bad losses. I think Vandy will prove themselves as the season goes on to be an upper half SEC team. It won't look too bad. The Florida one on the other hand looks terrible. Only way to do some damage control on that one is to beat them by double digits when they come to Knoxville.

Yes Lanier isn’t DK but he is a very good player. I agree ZZ should have been in the game to close the 1st half - bad decision by Barnes. Cant miss those free throws but I’d say the next time Lanier will make those.

Cant blame this on Lanier though - the team as a whole didn’t play well defensively - too many turnovers. Etc etc.
That would be a learning moment for Barnes, I think. You just have to risk it and let him play through it when a team goes on a run like Vandy did.

Not to mention Bama lost to Oregon. It’s basketball.

Why are you so offended?
Because you watched the same game I did. Our guys got absokutely hosed by whack officiating letting Vandy getting away with BS and it got in our guys heads and gave the momentum to Vandy.

And you for whatever reason can’t acknowledge it. Can’t see it. Or you’re asleep at the wheel mentally. Bizarre stuff for me because I’m pissed and you just can’t even see it. Like I said, a human cow just kinda munching and moping without looking at what actually played out here.

You can pick and chose stats based upon short timelines. So whatever.

1? Right now Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Marquette, and Iowa State are all ahead of us. Kansas could pass us up. Ole Miss is also climbing fast.
Yeah marquettes home loss to Xavier today surely rocketed them ahead of us. Also even if all those teams were ahead of us, that would make us a 2 seed, obv well within striking distance of a 1

You are wrong. Lanier was our leading scorer. He will be the Vols leading scorer in many games from this point forward.
He should be the leading scorer in every game but this is his 1st in what 4 games? We will see how this ends and I hope he goes off from here on out. At the same time I can say ZZ will be the leading scorer in many games from here on out

We're headed for a minimum of 6 conference losses. May be closer to 8 before it's all said and done. We just don't have enough offense this year. I'll be very surprised at this point f we end up with a double bye in the SEC tournament.
I think we're headed for a finish of around 6-8 in conference.

We won't win that game. We are fortunate their All SEC post is still hurt though.

Even with that loss it won't knock us out the SEC race. There is a long way to go.

At least this was a tier 1 road loss.
If we lose to Auburn, we are probably out of it since we have 2 losses already and they have zero. We aren’t making up three games on them. We are going to lose a few more along the way, so we have to beat Auburn if we are winning the SEC.

Yes, and the committee realizes just like you do that the sec is the best conference, and accounts for that
