The Official #6 Tennessee @ Vanderbilt Game Thread, 3:30 PM ET, SEC Network

Or…teams in the SEC are better than those we play to start the season?

3 Sweet Sixteens, 1 Elite Eight, 1 SECT Championship

Barnes has done better in March than any other Vols coach.
I wish Vanderbilt was better than Baylor or Illinois.. That’s not true though.

So you’re conceding that Barnes is good in March & wanna change to discussion about Vandy being worse than Baylor or Illinois?

Vandy has a better record in a better conference, they might actually be better.

They might be comparable to Baylor. Baylor was definitely overrated when we played them. Wouldn’t be shocked if both they and vandy ended up in the 25-40 range
This far into the season, I wouldn’t call them even. Baylor is still a team that has won it all in the past 5 years. Vanderbilt is still a team that had to fire its coach because they were bad.

Vanderbilt is 1-1 against ranked teams. You know which ranked team choked against them. They have had a very weak schedule other than games against Miss St and TN.

Did someone say Barnes is good in March? Where was that?

That’s based a lot more on reputation than on the results of this year. Baylor has played a much tougher schedule so far, but they’ve got the losses to prove it. I’ve watched them both play a couple times (not just our games) and they seem pretty close to me 🤷‍♂️

I guess we’ll see how they end up. Vandy will get a chance to prove themselves against plenty of tough teams in the sec this year.

11-5 Baylor just lost by 11 at unranked Arizona and their best win is against 11-7 Arkansas (currently tied as worst team in SEC)

This is a stretch. They’re not a very good team. Winning on the road is hard but this is one of the worst teams in conference play. If you can’t win there, you aren’t going to win many road games period this year.
They have one less win than we do. They may not be a Final Four contender by any means, but this is not Jerry Stackhouse’s Vandy anymore. I absolutely think they’re a tournament team.

We ought to get a check from the conference later this month for the students storming the court, first offense in football is $100,000, not sure what the fee is on the basketball side,

Can’t say that imo. Especially when the team won at Illinois and at Texas. Vandy is more than likely making the NCAA tournament team. Tennessee is by the far the better team and today sucked losing. Too many above avg teams in the sec to have an off night or bad stretch in the game.

it carries over in both sports Vandy is fined 500k for this little fiasco today

I’m not sure what I said conflicts with what you said. I guess it’s semantics but I’m arguing they aren’t a very good team. Just a good team. When I hear the word “very” to me that’s saying they’re one of the 20-25 best teams in the country. They're a solid squad. But I don’t think they’re “very” good.

I particularly love the “don’t know much about basketball” folks in these threads. They’re obviously all super qualified as evidenced by their jobs with the program amirite?

Said it once and said it again...road games require a whole new level of focus, attention to detail, making free throws, and more. We have lost road games because we are not mentally ready and prepared for them. Gotta change that. Road games are war and you better be jacked up or you lose.

What really sucks, is Millonare Rick Barnes, calls out kid tryin to make a livin “Chaz” (dude, hit a dang free throw”) but, Barnes cannot make a final four. Yet, he tells a kid, he is not earning his money. Is Barnes?
Yes, Barnes is earning his money. When Pearl betrayed our trust, lying to NCAA, we v CB old have spiraled downward, out of control quickly. CRB, has been a great coach for a longtime. I believe only 26 coaches have won a D1 Championship since 1985. There are 364 D1 Colleges that play basketball. Do the math, he has earned his money. If he isn’t a hard nosed coach with Lanier, you think he gets drafted and has a successful NBA career? Lanier came to Barnes for one reason. That is to get better. I will keep him if he never makes a final four. Go Vols.
