The Official #8 Tennessee vs. #5 Florida Game Thread, 12:00 PM ET, ESPN

We just need Zeigler to stop shooting so many 3s when he's such a bad shooter. Just be the stud defensive player he is and facilitate
He has a good stroke but I think his ultra active role takes a toll on his legs. Hard to make 20 footers when the legs are weary. Him playing less minutes will improve his FG%

Yes. What many of our faithful posters don't get is that it's a marathon of a season. Every good team is going to have some bad losses. At the same time, a win like this one can be a tremendous confidence booster

Right. It would be nice if a win like this would wake up the knee jerk fans who are always ready to draw conclusions based on the last game or even teams from years ago, that every game is its own entity and it's a long season with ups and downs for every team, especially in a league like the current SEC. But I'm not holding my breath.

We can only hope less minutes will improve his %. His shooting has been really bad for majority of the season now
It's sort of an expected "hope". Almost every great coach has said as much. I'm not a coach, but having played the game competitively, I can readily agree it's harder to make long shots with tired legs. We know Gainey can spell him now when he needs a rest

Agreed! And overall today may have been a blessing for the season. Got to see Gainey handle the point really nicely. And got to see Boswell have possibly his best overall game (wasn't great or anything). But was nice seeing both of them handle point better today

It's kind of funny reading the posts of our dumbass posters. Most of them tee it up so high, it makes for great "sport" posting. That's how I look at it anyway

Just a phenomenal team win, and a back to basics kind of game where the Vols finally got away from settling for 3-pointers and established a paint presence, which in turn ... surprise, surprise! ... opened up the 3-ball, but in the rhythm of the offense instead of being forced.

Can't say enough about Gainey, who did a remarkable job running the offense and really got into a shooting rhythm in the second half. Mashack, as well, but what can you say about him, he's just a warrior. I loved seeing Boswell get some significant run, and aside from the one turnover he was very controlled, and made a few gorgeous passes.

Felix and Cade were monsters inside, and made life miserable for their bigs, and D-Stone did a lot of good things. And damn, it was so nice seeing the big smile on Chaz' face as he was finally feeling it again, and he played some rock solid defense as well.

Best win of the season, and an incredible confidence boost doing it without ZZ and Igor.

Well stated!

Much easier to react at a moment during the game. A thorough understanding of the game is the ease to let it play out before commenting. We're 18-4, with a bunch of quality gamers and a great F'ing coach

I'm pretty sure almost every UT fan believed UT would lose today. No ZZ, no Igor, how we played last game, how we played the last time against UF.

It was a reasonable line of thinking b4 the game. Of course, I'm glad I was wrong

Today we saw what an outstanding coach Barnes is. He changed up his offense and play tight man defense most of the game. The defense set the tone for the day and the offense was much more aggressive than they have been in 5-6 games. The smaller-quicker lineup simply put enough pressure on, on and off. The ball, to disrupt their offense. Noe, we need th start hitting at least 75--80 percent of our free throws.

Shades of McBee and Swiperboy beating Kansas. As improbable a win as Barnes has had here. Not sure what big picture takeaways will come from it, but hopefully Lanier has found his strike again and can build off of that.

Dubar and Phillips should both be getting more minutes.

I think Milicic should not be starting when he comes back.
Having Felix and Cade out there at same time was oddly effective.

The Limp Lizards had to watch out for two shot blockers in the paint

This was a good win, didn't think we'd pull out based on recent performance and team leaders out for the game.

It's puzzling to me, the last few games and it struggles, what they did today was go back to fundamental team basketball, running set plays based on offensive keys to get looks or matchups we wanted. Where was this the past few games?

I've said repeatedly Barnes has forgotten more basketball than I'll ever know....... I didn't think we were able to play in the paint like this because we hadn't. No doubt home court was key but I can't understand why the coaches didn't refocus this team before now? Were they just trying to see what they had, to attempt as many ways possible as they could to win games and put that on tape? Did they just get carried away with it and let them run the raining 3's offense too long?

Aside from no ZZ or Igor, it is absolutely not a reasonable line of thinking, and anyone who has watched sports for a good amount of time should really understand that. No offense intended.

How we played last game or last time against Florida meant zero, zilch, nada today. I wasn't sure we'd win, but I 100% expected it to be a war, and once the game started to develop, by the 10-minute mark of the first half, I fully believed we could win.

Every game is its own entity, and any thinking fan knew damn well that Barnes & Co. would have some adjustments, especially once he knew ZZ was out. The establishment of the inside game was clearly hammered home, as was working the clock and avoiding quick, out of rhythm 3's. And defensively taking away the open 3's they got at will last time.

I'm certainly not a know-it-all, but I know enough not to draw conclusions based on factors that have no bearing on the current game or on this team compared to any other team in UT history.

Last game Igor played was his best game as a Vol. Dubar was like 2-10 today. I don’t think this game means Igor needs to hit the pine any more than it means Boswell should be getting Ziegler’s minutes. Let’s not overreact to a surprising win.

I’d say no ZZ and no Igor was a really big thing to put aside, no?

Igor shouldn't start based on what, this one game? And if Dubar had not been good, would you then conclude he shouldn't play any more?

Damn guys, let each game happen and don't draw conclusions that might be the exact opposite after the next game.

Oof meant Okbara not Dubar.

Yeah if Milicic keeps shooting like that sure, but I think he can be a liability on defense and he doesn't set very good screens. He's a good rebounder but no better than our other bigs.

I think this game shows that Gainey is the guy, not Lanier. We have wasted too much time trying to get Lanier a shot, which reduces the clock to 10 sec., and why ZZ is taking so many shots. Spend that time on Gainey because he can shoot the 3, drive and shoot, drive and finish, drive and get fouled. The defense will adjust and Lanier will get his shot. They were forced into it today. What a great game for those guys who played, no one gave them a chance.
