The Official #8 Tennessee vs. Tarleton State Game Thread, 6:30 PM ET, SEC Network+

Things that are concerning to me(I love UT but I don’t wear orange colored glasses)

1. Tn was not the stronger more physical team

2. Tn got out hustled

3. The regression of DK(I know he has been hurt but he’s still playing isn’t he)

4. Lack of post presence

5. Offensive woes

We were playing Tarleton State, not Purdue, Kentucky, etc

Roast away

We won by 20.

He only took 9 shots and scored 12 points. He also had 7 rebounds & 5 assists

He’s no longer getting the offense ran through him like his Junior season. I agree we need him to be in double digits every night, but he was a bit of a volume shooter. He was getting 10+ attempts the last two seasons when he averaged 12+, it’s down to 6 attempts this season.

I’m more concerned that Knecht has been off. Maybe his ankle is bothering him. Hopefully it isn’t that defenses have figured out how to shut him down. If the latter, it could be best in the long run. He’s needed to find the open teammate when he draws a double team instead of losing the ball attempting to drive. We’re a better team if DK can draw multiple defenders while somebody else winds up with good open looks from 3.

We continue to pull these performances, even with all the excuses everyone constantly makes, and we'll get scorched in SEC play... Ole Miss is undefeated and about to come to TBA in a few weeks and is about to flat embarrass us if we don't figure something out. But of course Barnes will fix it, right, like he always does, making adjustments... so we should be fine.

In all seriousness maybe fatigue has set in on this team since they've had to constantly play at such a high level almost every game while other teams have been coasting into conference play... Barne's idea of playing so many tough teams at first all at once may have backfired and we are running on fumes both emotionally and physically.

Either way that was flat ugly.

Why is it that when we “struggle” to beat an inferior team by 19 that it means we suck and are going to get embarrassed? But Ole Miss has had multiple games against inferior opponents that they’ve barely managed to even win (single digit games) and that’s ok for them and they’re going to be the ones to embarrass us?

I think the ankle injury has had an impact those first 2 games after UNC he wasn’t practicing and using that time to rehab and rest. It catches up to you.

I hope he’s 100% after this break. The good news is ZZ has started looking like his old self again.

What team are you watching?

A Tennessee team that’s fine athletically speaking. This isn’t the most athletic team out there, but to say what Breathe said about the team not being athletic is asinine.

You can say the team is inconsistent offensively. You can say the team isn’t particularly strong on the glass. If you think this team isn’t athletic / is held back by a lack of athleticism, then you don’t really know what you’re talking about frankly.

We should be firing on all cylinders to a degree at this point with the competition we've played, yet won some ugly games that won't be able to be duplicated later in SEC play and expect to win. Ole Miss seems to be firing on all cylinders, at whatever level that is for them, and they will have undefeated confidence most likely coming in to play a team on their home court who lately can't seem to hit their stride consistently and could be primed for an upset. You don't think an undefeated Ole Miss will not be killing themselves for an upset? We try getting away with another "ugly win" and we may not be as lucky as tonight.

He's been hurt.

He's been hurt.

He hurt his ankle at UNC. But he’s played in all of the 5 games since. I don’t think that his offensive production is off just because of that. I think that it’s more that he’s struggling to involve his teammates and well coached opponents are exploiting that. He needs to be productive as a part of the offense instead of simply scoring while his teammates spread out. He needs to do more than take all of the shots while his teammates watch. That approach won’t win consistently. It’s fine when opponents don't have anybody that can stop him. But that won’t work all the time.

Lol just wanting to talk ****, knowing that has nothing to do with the game....
It's a long season and we're going to have off nights. Sometimes the other team will play better than us too. Some of these guys are trolls, some have no understanding of the games some will nitpick everything just to be miserable

Uh huh. Your opinions are the "truth"?
We went 13 minutes and scored 7 points against a low major. We dared mention it. At that point it's the elephant in the room. We did what Tennessed basketball does though. We locked down on defense and it saved us during that stretch. You could tell Coach Barnes put on emphasis on making them shoot jump shots instead of getting to the rim. It was a typical Gilespie coached team minus the high major talent. Physical, good rebounding and defense, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from outside.

Speaking of Billie Boy, where was he at the nearest Bar knocking down shots...

No the doubt the fellas are ready for Christmas break and the game was never really in question.

There is a reason why Ole Miss is undefeated and ranked 25th, while we have 3 losses and are in the top 10. Records don’t tell the whole story. I’m not going to say I’m not concerned about that game, but I don’t think anyone who is paying attention looked at our schedule and expected us to go into conference play undefeated. We are winning the games we should while learning valuable lessons in the games that we knew would be difficult. That’s the point of hard early-season games. Coach is doing exactly what he should be at this point in the season. College basketball isn’t college football.

We were playing a team that none of us fans or players had ever heard of, the day before they broke for Christmas. Anyone who has ever played team sports at the HS or higher level understands you just can't get up for and focused for every f'n game.

They did what they needed to do against a team that had a good scheme. Slow it down and force us into a half court game. It frustrated us and worked. Beating this team by 50 would not have impressed anyone but you complainers who don't matter. Not attacking anyone, just saying, be happy with it and move on folks.
