The Official #8 Tennessee vs. Tarleton State Game Thread, 6:30 PM ET, SEC Network+

We should be firing on all cylinders to a degree at this point with the competition we've played, yet won some ugly games that won't be able to be duplicated later in SEC play and expect to win. Ole Miss seems to be firing on all cylinders, at whatever level that is for them, and they will have undefeated confidence most likely coming in to play a team on their home court who lately can't seem to hit their stride consistently and could be primed for an upset. You don't think an undefeated Ole Miss will not be killing themselves for an upset? We try getting away with another "ugly win" and we may not be as lucky as tonight.
Your logic is insanely flawed and clearly you are a football fan with at best, casual basketball knowledge.

LOL my logic is insanely flawed that I pointed out that if we continue to pull out ugly wins and play at this level, we could get upset by a undefeated SEC Ole Miss team who seems to be playing well? That we won't get away with playing like this later in SEC play and expect a win? Okay.
I'll be at the Ole Miss game, hopefully UT gets over its usual inconsistent funk they seem to be in by the time they come back from break and play like they can with the talent they have...

Ole Miss has struggled more than we did, against worse teams than we’ve played is my point….so why is it that you look past that, or excuse that for them and hype them up? But when Tennessee does it then it’s some huge deal and is a bad sign for an upcoming game against a team who’s actually done the exact same thing but worse?

Things that are concerning to me(I love UT but I don’t wear orange colored glasses)

1. Tn was not the stronger more physical team

2. Tn got out hustled

3. The regression of DK(I know he has been hurt but he’s still playing isn’t he)

4. Lack of post presence

5. Offensive woes

We were playing Tarleton State, not Purdue, Kentucky, etc

Roast away
From reading these ridiculous takes, you would think we lost by 50.

Dude Ole Miss has played nobody. Their SOS is in the 200's, while ours is in the teens.

Detroit Mercy: 70-69
Sam Houston: 70-67
UCF: 70-68

Look above... Ole Miss pulled out some ugly wins and you act like they're playing like a top 10 team lol.

Ole Miss has Flanigan, is a good all-around player. Brakefield good on some nights but can kill you and shoot you out of game in others. They have a real good motivating coach but one of the easiest schedules in D1. They beat Sam Houston by 1, UCF by 2, Temple by 1, Detroit Mercy by 1. They could easily have 4 Ls even with that schedule.
IMO Tarleton State will get in the Tourney winning the WAC or maybe Grand Canyon. TSU plays a very slow game using the whole shot clock and sometimes not even getting a shot off. If they play great D they can give some teams trouble if the team has an off night on O and it's a frustrating team to play. Even though our O was off (we had four 3s go all the way in and pop out) one of those nights BUT we were favored 22.5 and won by 19 to a team that tries to keep the score around 50s. IMO this was a good OOC team to play because we will invariably see teams that play this style.

Biggest problem with Tn and fans this season is listening to all the HYPE. Everyone keeps labeling them a F4 contender so casual fans expect a blockbuster performance every time they take the floor. Though they could eventually develop into one, they are experiencing the common growing pains of adding talent from the portal and adjusting to it. time will tell. I expect a much tougher Conference experience than most are projecting and finding consistent offense remains the goal. Either way they'll be battle tested come March.

That’s my point though…Purdue, UCONN, FAU, BYU, Creighton, Auburn etc., all teams also labeled as F4 contenders at various stages have all suffered losses to unranked teams. Tennessee has 3 losses, all to Top 10 teams.

A Tennessee team that’s fine athletically speaking. This isn’t the most athletic team out there, but to say what Breathe said about the team not being athletic is asinine.

You can say the team is inconsistent offensively. You can say the team isn’t particularly strong on the glass. If you think this team isn’t athletic / is held back by a lack of athleticism, then you don’t really know what you’re talking about frankly.
Compared to jr high teams yes, compared to other top 25 teams they are lacking athletically.

It's not a "problem" listening to the hype if you have a clue. They are loaded with talented depth. They are ranked fairly. Focus and concentration will be a challenge. Hopefully, they will win the SEC regular season. That is their goal. Everything else will be gravy

The casual fan follows basketball as entertainment, which is what is meant to be. Not all fans look at it and study it as a science. If there is a problem it's caused by social media which encourages people to respond n the moment. That's just the world we live in.

We continue to pull these performances, even with all the excuses everyone constantly makes, and we'll get scorched in SEC play... Ole Miss is undefeated and about to come to TBA in a few weeks and is about to flat embarrass us if we don't figure something out. But of course Barnes will fix it, right, like he always does, making adjustments... so we should be fine.

In all seriousness maybe fatigue has set in on this team since they've had to constantly play at such a high level almost every game while other teams have been coasting into conference play... Barne's idea of playing so many tough teams at first all at once may have backfired and we are running on fumes both emotionally and physically.

Either way that was flat ugly.
Strength of Schedule says you're overreacting to OM record.

I disagree. Social media has exposed uninformed, reactionary opinions. It didn't create them. People have always been ignorant. It's just now they have an avenue to flaunt it

Do you honestly think everyone else is ignorant and you are the only one who knows anything?

🤭No.There are smarter people than me posting in this forum all the time. As usual, you have no interest in nuance. Yes, you're exposed
I am glad you are willing to admit this. You tend to really get "on your high horse" and put people down. I respect your right to post as you wish, but would expect you to do the same.

I must be "ignorant" because I am unclear as to what you mean by "exposed".

As to your previous post, this team could be a F4 contender, but in order to do that, they will need to figure out a way to handle a skilled big man and eliminate the scoring droughts that have plagued us. Barnes is going to have to work the officials like almost every other coach does... especially when the calls are getting out of hand. This team has at least 2 full teams (worth of players) that can play without a drop off. There are some players MIA lately... injury? In the dog house? Who knows?
At the end of the year, I expect to lose 3-4 of these to the transfer portal. Hopefully, Barnes can pull in some replacements from the portal to fill in these holes. The days of waiting your turn to play are over and keeping contributing players is almost impossible. Recruiting classes are pretty much meaningless in that after year one, you see so many transfers.

Ok, as to uninformed, reactionary opinions...you are posting in the game thread, where posting is happening when the actual game is going on and just afterwards...which by definition would all be reactionary. Us still posting today is no longer reactionary. The uninformed part is just your opinion.

A handful of those on here. Self acclaimed experts that like to flaunt a superior knowledge and put the 'lower IQs' in their place. Does get old.

Well 3 of our starters will be out of eligibility and it’s highly unlikely DJ returns. That’s 1/3 of the roster. Who else is leaving in your opinion?

Dillione, Carr, Jefferson
DJ, yes. Carr is definitely not leaving, he will play a lot, next year. His Dad knows this year is good for him. Freddie ? Maybe, but I doubt it. Although, it seems like all Rick's redshirts transfer, especially after DJ does. So 65-35 , Freddie stays, especially if his minutes increase in SEC play like I think they will.

Don’t you think Dillione’s lack of playing time is mostly due to his injury problems? Other than DJ, I don’t see anyone leaving. JMO
