The Official #9 Tennessee @ #8 Ohio State Game Thread, 8:00 PM ET, ABC/ESPN

FWIW it’s just the dumb, whiny bitchy fans that act & think like that and they are in every fanbase. I mean you heard it from Herbie‘s mouth, the lunatic fringe that wants Day who is 67 and 10 since 2018 fired. I mean, let that sink in.

And if they lose to Oregon next week, they’ll all be up in arms again
Idk man, seemed to have lit a fire up under him in regards to tonight. These coaches get paid a lot of money and fans have every right to expect for them to deliever, IMO

I don't think it's that much of a gap, but we definitely don't have the personnel at QB or WR to run that playbook at the moment.

Next year is going to be rough.

It is a huge gap, along the lines, Defense and WR. TOSU likely has 5 future NFL WRs on their team right now, some who aren’t even getting snaps yet. Go check their draft board… They pump wide receivers into the NFL every year sometimes, two at a time.

They pretty much have more talent than anybody they ever play outside of the Georgias & Bamas

Huepel is a good administrator, average recruiter and an average coach. Better than his recent predecessors but not a championship level guy. The entire staff was hosed tonight. This team never played a complete 20 minutes all season. A ton of wasted talent on the field. Is that 5 or 6 games with zero first quarter points, hard to remember.

Nico at least is a RS freshman that you hope develops and the game slows down for him. Milton was a 5th year senior that the staff wouldn't trust to throw more than a WR screen.

It was a tough assignment tonight and Nico had some bad throws. But he still looked elisive in the pocket at times and showed some instinct. The defense really put the offense in a hole and didn't do anything to help them with good field position.
He had some great runs. That move he does to fake defenders out is sweet. I just worry he’s gonna get broken in half sometimes. He was about the only bright spot tonight.

Those are excuses ... We might as well quit or not even play next season ...
Or, continue to recruit without massive turnover and penalties between staff changes as opposed to how we have been operating the past twenty plus years. Not all gloom, just reality. This certainly wasn't set up in our favor like it was for our opposition and their peers.

Ohio State alum. First, kudos to Tennessee fans for showing up at the Old Horseshoe on a cold night and supporting their team. Y'all were visible and loud -- well done. Second, your QB is going to be really, really good next season -- especially if he gets some difference makers at WR. Finally, tonight was Ohio State's night. I watched Tennessee a few times this season. The Vols are better than they showed tonight; something was off. All Buckeye fans were hoping Day would coach aggressively like he did against Georgia in the CFP a few seasons ago, and fortunately the offense utilized the downfield pass this game. BTW, the only one to shut down WR Jeremiah Smith all season was Ryan Day / Chip Kelly.

Good luck next season, especially against Georgia, Alabama and Florida.
**** you and every OSU fan. You’re worse than bama fans.

As I said, we blamed it Joe being too slow to make the reads and Nico being too young to make the reads.

It's an unpopular take for sure but if your college playbook requires a seasoned pro level QB and elite receivers, you're not going to always have success with it because there's only so many of those level players out there.

We caught lightning to have Hooker, Hyatt, and Tillman but needing that kind of lightning every year or your playbook won't function well??? That's a tough ask for a coach.

Very kind of you.

We lost 3 games this season and all 3 came after a bye week/ time off. I’m heartbroken, but we overachieved our #15 preseason ranking.. You just have to worry about players and coaches quitting/ moving on when things end like this.

The high character players in the program will be even more determined and work harder to reach their goals (SEC Championship, CFP, etc.).

This will help you if you are struggling tonight

I’m going to be less depressed about the abomination by listening to the Philosophy podcast that is Philosophize this, and watching a Lifetime thriller movie that has Shannon Elizabeth in it.

Referring to the gap in the playbook Heupel ran with Hooker/Tillman/Hyatt, and what he runs with Nico/Squirrel/Thornton.

When you can’t block or hold the D-line it’s tough to win. Fans always look at the simplest ****. Oh know we lost, our coach sucks
I'm with you, the OL, of all groups, tends to being our weakest year in and year out. Personally, I haven't seen that many passes batted down against TN In ages. Say nothing of sacks, hurries and running for one's life. Fix it!!

Fire Heupel...

On a serious note, I am not confident that we could find something as good as Heupel. Tennessee just isn't an elite football program. Tennessee is a decent one but not great. We would need a Nick Saban or Bob Neyland type coach to walk in the door to change that and that isn't happening.

This is exactly what he is.. The road woes are just telling.
In three years when we are looking for another coach everyone will agree. Just like with Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt. Hype will have instilled a good culture and probably 8 to 9 win seasons but no SEC or NCAA championships
