The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

Sox had an amazing week last week & got within 1 game of the WC, now they come home & get horrible pitching performances from Dice & Wake. I HATE when they do this.

Buchholz is finally becoming what Theo thought he could be, I've been ready to trade him the past 3 yrs but I'm really glad we kept him. This team is finally starting to play they way we all thought they could. We just need to get Ellsbury, Cameron, & Beckett healthy so we can see what this team is really capable of when 100% healthy. If we can get Lackey to start pitching the way he can I really think we can start to chip away at the division lead.

Ortiz has cooled off, I think he is 0-12 lately, something like that...Clay has been very good...I believe that this team has one really good run in them.

Dice-K throws a random gem again, even if it was against the likes of the Cleveland Indians.

Team is on track, pitching is improving a great deal -- especially Lester and Buchholz -- and this is without Beckett.

Beltre has been performing like 2004 Beltre. Scutaro is getting hot, even with a pinched nerve. Pedroia will break out of his slump soon, and Youkilis has been the heart of the team. Not to mention, V-Mart's crazy June numbers. The scary part is this is without Jacoby. This team is on track for a good postseason run.

Dont look now but here come the Red Sox, after the win tonight & the Yankee's & Ray's losing the Sox are only 1 game back from the division lead & the best record in baseball. What's so impressive about this is that the Sox are able to do this with out their leadoff batter in Ellsbury for most of the season so far & without their starting rotation being together & completely healthy yet this season. I'm really excited to see how this team will play once they can set their rotation right with Beckett, Buchholz, Lester, Lackey, & Dice-K. Could this actually be the best team in baseball when healthy?

Yes.

^Been saying this all along...Don't forget about how bad Ortiz struggled and Mike Cameron being out.

Jacoby has basically missed the entire season...Dustin is hitting well below his average.

The rotation has been in shambles but yet they are still right there.

Going to be a great race the rest of the way out ( barring a devastating injury ), it is too bad that all 3 can't make the playoffs, it is possible that the AL East may be home to the 3 best teams and records in the AL.

I dont think anyone sane should question the AL east has the top 3 teams in the AL. Although the NL east is the top conference in the NL it is not a huge gap. The NL west is solid. The Central is struggling right now. I feel bad for the AL this is not good for business at all. The AL Central and West is a farm league at this point for the AL east.

Indeed...look at Toronto, poor guys are in 4th but in the Central or West they would contend...in the East, they have a 0% chance of making the playoffs.

I see it coming down to the last week or so for all 3 teams and whoever finishes 3rd in the division being a 90+ win team and still miss the playoffs.

After beating the Dodgers yesterday 2-0 the Boston Red Sox are now 39-19 since starting the season off 4-9, that's the best record in baseball. Their is something special going on with this team right now, no matter what lineup Francona is putting out there they just keep winning. I'm very excited to see what this team will play like when their able to get Ellsbury & Beckett back & playing.

Dustin Pedrioa has a broken bone in his foot and has been placed on the 15 day DL...hopefully he will be able to overcome this injury very soon, he is the leader on this team and has been tearing the cover off in the last few weeks.

He may be gone for 6-8 weeks.

Well the Sox are about to be thrown in the fire, we are about to find out what this team is made of.

Dustin being out for about 2 months is really bad, Bill Hall is serviceable and has the ability to get hot but he doesn't give you half of what Dustin gives you.

Now Victor is on the 15 DL...luckily we have Tek to come in but we all know he can't hit like Vic can.

If they can be within striking distance when Dustin comes back, the rest of the league better watch out.

Good game last night... so who wants Upton for a bag of weed?

I'm not sure he has that much value right now...wonder when the Crawford talks will heat up, no way they will be able to retain him, might as well get something for him while they can.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I do not believe this will be a repeat of 2006, though. These injuries are occurring in late June as opposed to after the All-Star break. On another note, I really like what I have seen from Bill Hall. He has made two great defensive plays in the last two games and had that big homerun the other night. I think Boston's bench is deeper than a lot of people give them credit for. If we can avoid any more injuries to our pitching staff, we will be okay. *knock on wood*

Manny Delcarmen was put on the DL.

Sox trade minor league infielder Angel Sanchez to the Astros for catcher Kevin Cash.

I guess I didn't knock on wood hard enough. We are starting to run the lineup pretty thin. I don't like bringing Cash back, but I am not sure what other options Theo had. I will take a healthy Boston team over anyone in the East; however, for the time being, all we can hope is that the pitching staff carries us and guys like Cameron and Drew can step up... certainly Papi, Beltre, Youk and Scutaro have been carrying their weight.
