The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

Am I the only one that keeps looking at the standings each day & just hoping somehow we can close the gap? Lol. We had a perfect chance to this weekend but lost in extras to the Rays last night.

Who would have thought that leaving the Red Sox for New York for a few million more would make you a villain in Boston?

Boo Theo, then. He gets enough face time to hear a boo or two.

The most dedicated and passionate baseball fans in the world are Yankee fans. That's why there are twice as many as Boston has. That's also why Boston is their biatch. Just sayin

Also, Yanks have the best farm system in baseball, so they don't just buy their talent. Look it up. They know how to play baseball in NY, that's why they win. It's God's gift to baseball fans and that's why Boston will always call them daddy.

That is because the New York population trumps that of Boston...that and all the casual fans that are Yankee fans just cause it is the trendiest hat to wear.

The Yankees have the 3rd best farm system in the AL East, you have no idea what you are talking about.

So now that the Sox ar officialy knocked out of the playoff hunt, how do Sox fans see this offseason shaping out?

IMO, we need to try our best to re-sign Beltre & V-Mart. Ortiz ended up having a decent year stats wise, do you pick up his option or no? What about Mike Cameron & Ellsbury? Kalish showed some promise in the time he got. Also Lowrie showed promise when he finally got back. Could Dice-K be traded?

Alot of questions for this team.

32nd anniversary of Bucky Dent's homer in Fenway is today.

Happy anniversary.

I would LOVE to see the Sox pursue Carl Crawford & Carlos Pena. Put Pena at 1B move Youkilis to 3B. Adding Crawford would add some speed on the bases with Ellsbury.

We need to add some bullpen help also, would like to see us get Scott Downs or Rafiael Soriano.

I'm going to assume they will keep Beltre around for 2-3 years, and with Youk coming back, and likely Ortiz as well, that kind of nullifies any need for Pena. Plus Anthony Rizzo should be ready by 2013, the cost of bringing Pena in wouldnt make sense. Couple that with the fact that he hit under .200 and struck out 1/3 of the time in a walk year, it would be similar to bringing in Jack Clark in the early 90's.

Crawford is tempting, but costly and will involve several years at high cost, I think going with what we have in the OF is the better choice.

I would love for them to keep Beltre around for another 2-3 years. He carried the team this season. & yes they will likely bring Ortiz back by picking up his option, IMO 2011 is the last year Ortiz is in a Sox uniform. I'm not sold on Ellsbury, I LOVE his speed on the bases but he has alot of holes at the plate. Next offseason Adrian Gonzalez & Prince Fielder are FA's. Would love to see the Sox grab one of those & use them as the DH, after Ortiz's departure.

The issue with those 2 guys is that someone is bound to offer them something for 6-8 years, which the ownership isn't too keen on doing, for good reason.

Fenway Park's dimensions, already tight in left field thanks to the Green Monster, may be getting a little cozier.

The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham reports that the Red Sox are hoping to increase the width of the bullpens at Fenway by approximately 8 feet, a shift that would make it safer for pitchers warming up and cut down on the dimensions in right field.

Because Fenway is designated as a landmark, the Red Sox must first receive permission from the appropriate legal circles, but team officials don't see that as a problem.

Expanding the bullpens would shorten the distance from home plate to the right-field fence by 9 or 10 feet. That should be music to the ears of David Ortiz, assuming he is back in Boston next season.

Sox pick up Ortiz option for next year. Theo said he expects Beltre, Varitek, V-Mart, & Hall to hit FA. People in Boston believe Theo will go after Crawford hard to add him with Ells in the outfield. Also the Padres GM said today he doesnt expect Adrian Gonzalez to be apart of the team in 2012, he said either Gonzalez will be traded or hit FA.

Kind of surprised about that, TBH.
