The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

The AL EAST is sure going to be fun this year!

Should be for Boston anyway.

Yanks rotation is awful, their line-up is beyond old.

Rays lost too many key players to be taken serious.

Orioles and Blue Jays will fight for the 5th place.

Opening Day for the Sox is tomorrow, I'm ready to see how this team can perform. Tito has Cameron in RF for Drew against the lefty Wilson.

Ellsbury
Pedroia
Crawford
Youkilis
Gonzalez
Ortiz
Cameron
Salty
Scutaro

Kind of upset Jed didn't win the SS job. Iglesias owns it after this season, looks like Jed will have to take his talents elsewhere.

Part of the game, you get attached to guys that just aren't going to work out.

Sam Horn, John Valentin, Aaron Sele, Kenny Ryan, on and on.

But there is still Olde Towne Base Ball.

Marco isn't half bad.

He doesn't get a lot of respect.

Iglesias is a stud.

Iglesias needs lots of work with the stick and his legs, but he has all the ability in the world. With a star heavy lineup, he'll come along just fine, not having to be "the savior" like Alex Gordon, et al.

I know all about Gordon. He is coming along. The main issue with him is his history in the area. Drafting a kid from Nebraska to play in Kansas City is a big deal. Regardless, it shouldn't be any more, he has been around for a while now, and like Hochevar, is taking an eternity to develop. It's a never ending line though, Moose, Wil Myers, et cetera. One of the best farm systems in a longggg time.

IMO Kila will have a better year than Gordon.

Back on the Sox -- Scutaro had career highs in 09 and 10, so I think the sky is the limit barring injury. Particularly in this all-star lineup.

The sky isn't the limit for a guy in his 30's. And it isn't like he is setting new career highs by leaps and bounds and his career highs are nothing more than average to begin with.

He is what he is. Average.

Look at Bautista -- even though it would be foolish to anticipate 50+ dingers again. The point is he isn't half-bad and is putting up career numbers. Granted Igslesias will be a much better player, if not already, I still believe Marco is a reasonable SS for the short-term.

A lot of hits early. And some help from the Rangers outfield.

Looking good.

Tough game for the Sox yesterday, Lester always struggles in April. He usually doesnt get into a groove until May, Crawford had a horrid opening day & Bard just imploded. It was good to see Pedroia, Youk, & Ells back out there, hopefully they can stay healthy this season. Gonzalez had a great day for his 1st game as a Sox. Was also good to see Papi send one deep yesterday, would love to see him get off to a good start this season.

We have Lackey on the mound today, I'd expect to see Drew back in the lineup in place for Cameron.
