Ding ding ding. Not a fan of long assed deals, we'll see what it winds up being.

He is 28. So I am fine with a 6 or 7 year deal.

If it were say...a 7 year deal for a 31 year old OF, then I got a problem. But he can always DH to save him a little.

Jesus man...we have to take this approach or else the EVil Empire will just buy the division every year. I hate they way we have to operate but it is what it is.

You act as if it was just the "evil empire" who increased spending.

Hey!! :ermm::ermm:

It was a deal they maybe had to make. I dunno. I like him for the next few years in that deal, and i think he'll be solid even later on in it, but not to the price we'll be paying. Looks like our 3-4-5 could be Zman-Pena-Werth

Sorry man but that was a bad deal by the Nats. He had a good year last year, he really faded down the stretch and won't have 3 former MVP's batting in the same lineup in Washington.

The way I see it, he won't be one of those guys that is just plain AWFUL or the worst contract in the major leagues, but he'll be just ordinary after awhile, getting a lot of money. But we'll see how it plays out.

That is my point though, he got elite money for above average results...your GM should be fired if he even entertains the thought of signing Pena.

I'd rather wait a year and sign Fielder.

Well since the Sox actually went ahead with the deal they need to search for a right handed bat. Can't believe Werth got that outragous deal, that will take Crawford away from the Sox because he will def want more money.

Theo also needs to find 2 bullpen arms to bolster the bullpen.

Maggs.

The Sox are looking at Carlos Beltran, Magglio Ordonez, & Josh Willingham for another OF. Also, read that the Sox could still get involved for Crawford if the deal was right. Tito said he still likes Cameron playing in Left if he is 100% ( Personally I think Cameron would do fine if he can stay healthy ). Theo said he would like Reddick to stay in AAA to continue prgressing but if they had to they would use him as the utility OF.

Also, the Sox are looking at Brian Fuentes & Ron Mahay for the bullpen. Theo said they could also make a trade to bolster the pen & that fixing that is his #1 priority right now.

I would be sorely dissappointed if the Sox went after Magglio.

On the Carl Crawford front, seems the Angels are the front-runner, they seem to want him more than anyone else, looks like Boston is behind them with the Yankees just waiting to see what Lee does.

If Lee signs elsewhere and Crawford is still unsigned I would expect the Yankees to go hard for him and probably get him. Otherwsie they are just pushing the price for the Angels and the Sox.

And Carlos Pena is no longer a Tampa Bay Ray, he is on the northside of Chicago now.

Pretty good off-season so far.

1.Ellsbury
2.Pedrioa
3.Crawford
4.Gonzalez
5.Youk
6.Otiz
7.Drew
8.Scutaro
9.Salt/Tek/Martin?

Now get a lefty for the pen.

That lineup is just SICK! Kinda left heavy but we will have Cameron & Kalish to bring of the bench with a switch hitter in Lowrie.

Need to shore up the bullpen.

I'm shocked by this, I never expected Theo or the FO to pull something like this off. I take back everything I ever said about them.

They just set this team up for years ahead. We have Drew & Cameron coming off the books next season, we will be able to slide Kalish right into RF & not miss a beat in our lineup (not to mention he will be very very cheap). You will have Scutaro coming off the books & possibly have Iglesias sliding right into SS.

They will have to find another DH next season with Ortiz contract running out.

The only thing that worries me is our lineup is lefty heavy & we HAVE to get bullpen help in a bad way. Cameron could spell Ortiz against some lefties this season & be a utility OF, while Lowrie could be the utility IF & he is a switch hitter.

I would bat Crawford leadoff. Don't like him in the 3 hole. Not enough pop.

Crawford has never wanted to bat leadoff, as long as Theo doesnt trade Ells for a bullpen arm then Ells will be the leadoff hitter.

You could see Pedrioa drop in the lineup, possibly this:

CF Ellsbury
LF Crawford
3B Youkilis
1B Gonzalez
DH Ortiz
RF Drew
2B Pedrioa
SS Scutaro
C Salty

Bench players: Varitek, Lowrie, Cameron.
