The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

156 games left in the JD Drew era, then we can start the Daisuke countdown. Boras is still laughing about jobbing Theo that winter.

We have to take 2 out of 3 this weekend IMO. We have 10 home games in the next 11 days, this is the chance to right the ship so to speak.

JTD: Do you think Kalish takes over in RF after Drew leaves at the end of the season? Kalish looked good in the time he saw when he came up last year, he would come cheap also.

Were losing Daisuke, Wakefield, Drew, Ortiz, Varitek, & Papelbon at the end of the season. Theo will have more money to throw around.

You have to assume it will be Kalish or Reddick in right.

I don't think they will be spending much next winter, they made the Gonzalez and Crawford moves knowing that there would be alot of money coming off the books, and the odds of landing comparable talent next season were very low, so Henry and company were willing to take the one season spike in salary.

Just my $.02

The more I watch John Lackey the more he reminds me of Gomer Pyle.

I love how Theo dishes out money to Lackey & Beckett who are both washed up. Only 2 pitchers I trust on the staff are Lester & Buchholz.

Beckett got the deal he had coming, he's struggled with injuries, I don't believe he's pitched at 100% for some time, I'm confident he'll be fine.

Lackey was a poor signing, his numbers were generally slightly above average, and he had a good walk year. All in all it is an extreme version of the Gil Meche contract, paying a #3 guy ace money since he was the best available.

Thank God we finally got one. Now it's time to get rolling, sweep the skankees and win 5 or 6 straight. And yes, pap was filthy.

Beckett was worth the money and can still be a very good pitcher.

Lackey was a waste.

Theo has had many misses in his tenure.

Lackey is just another one.

Didn't see the game, so I can't comment on Pap being filthy. But I remember hearing that he was going to get back to throwing his other pitches more this year.

The guy has a good fastball but any major leaguer can hit it when it is the only thing you are throwing.

Echoes of Jeremy "The Ultimate On Base Machine" Giambi.

The Nomar move was a high point, though they managed to piss away the gains by letting Cabrera go. Like you, I often find myself scratching my head.

Pitching wasnt pretty today until we got to the pen, Pap was filthy. The lineup finally got something going. Would love to see a sweep against the Yanks & get back on track. Now is the best chance to do it w/ 10 home games.

I wonder If Francona will move Crawford around anymore? He really needs to get going..I understand it's only 7 games into the season but he just looks uncomfortable in the box for some reason.

New club, new routine, alot of weight from that contract, I'd just plug him in the same spot every night and let him get settled. Hopefully he doesn't turn into JD Redux.

Yeah I agree..I liked the lineup with Ellsbury leading off then Pedroia, Crawford, Youk, Gonzalez, then Papi. Oh well maybe they'll get settled and start hitting like they're capable of like they did today.
