Perfect logic huh? Only try to win against the Yankees and Rays I guess.

As a Cubs fan I must say the Sox pulled a Cubs last night. That was ugly.

Gonzo is just killing it right now. Average above .340.

4 games over .500 with " the best team in baseball" up next.

Buchholz vs Masterson tonight, a few years ago Masterson was going to be another good young pitcher the Sox were going to lock up for a starting rotation spot. He has been pitching good of late w/ the Indians.

Youk has hit in 10 straight games, he is starting to get hot along w/ Salty who is batting .283 in May w/ 3 HR's.

We have all 3 of your top pitchers going in this series.

Jenks threw 25 pitches off the mound today, said he felt good. Francona said he might need a rehab game.

Lackey threw a bullpen session today for the first time since going on the DL.

The last thing we need is for Pedroia to have a serious injury, that's the same foot he had surgery on. Hopefully it's just a sprained ankle.

Pedroia is ok, taking today off but says he is good to go.

Said he had numbness in his foot for five minutes or so, hope this isn't something that is a problem going forward.

Please, look at the RBI, Jose is a one-demensional player, his defense is nothing to speak of, Gonzo may be the best 1st basemen in baseball.

Plus the Blue Jays will finish 4th in the division.

RBIs are a whole lotta luck sometimes. Put Bautista in that Sox lineup and see if he doesn't have 10 more rbis on the year.

Gonzalez was my AL MVP pick and I still think he wins it, especially since the Jays won't win the division, but Bautista has been the best player in baseball. He's actually not bad in right and has a cannon for an arm as well.

Few thoughts, RBI's, as dbake said, are very dependent on who is around you in the lineup. An overrated stat IMO. Someone being a good first basemen isn't exactly an MVP tiebreaker, there's a reason the fat guy goes over there in the NL if they want him in the lineup.

That said, I think Gonzalez will end up winning it, based on team record, and the fact that I can't see Bautista continuing to hit north of .340 and hit homers at the pace he's been on.

Good points from both of you.

I think Gonzo is the best defensive 1st basemen in the game, that means something, even if it is 1st base.

It comes down to winning though, Gonzo is leading a very hot team, Jose is playing on a team that reside in the lower half of the AL.

Best defensive first baseman just doesn't have much of a gap between #1 and #15... only really atrocious ones have a huge effect.

Sox put up 7 in the first so far today. Pedroia w/ a HR. Lester going for the league leading 7th win.

.343 average, .492 OBP, 19 HR, 39 runs. Throw in 32 RBI and 5 steals. Hardly a one category player. Gonzo has a better chance to win the MVP over the course of the season, but the vote today for anyone other than Bautista would be a joke.
