The Official Boston Red Sox Thread

I like Napoli, I just don't think you'll get the craziness that was 2011. The lineup could be fun this year

Sox brass met w/ the Met's about the chances of getting R.A. Dickey, Met's told them they wanted Bradley Jr. & Boagearts. I bet Cherrington spite up his drink laughing. :eek:lol:

Sounds like Gomes is in line to get a ton of AB's, pretty much a full time player from what Cherington has said. Don't know how I feel about that yet. Kalish is supposedly in the best shape ever (again) and hopefully finally healthy.

Ellsbury - CF
Ross - RF
Gomes - LF
Kalish - 4th OF

Napoli - 1B
Pedey - 2B
Iglesias - SS (Heard the Sox are still in on S Drew at this point)
Middlebrooks - 3B

Lavarnway/Ross - C
Ortiz - DH

Hoping to see Salty traded...we still need pitching, bring Aceves back.

Bridge year, building toward the future, let's just cross our fingers & pray that Bradley Jr, Brentz, & Boagearts develop the way they're predicted.

I do wonder if the Sox would go after Asdrubal

I'm hoping for this, wouldn't mind getting Masterson back with him, or Choo for RF. Also read today if they can't get Ross back, Victorino would get a look, they apparently want a RF that can play CF also (Kalish insurance IMO)

Ha dream on Mets, i predict they sell him off to the Rangers if they can. I really have high hopes for Bradley, not McCutchen, but maybe a poor mans.

Josh Hamilton realistic FA Market looks like Rangers or Red Sox with Yankees a dark horse...doubtful Hamilton goes to SEA even if best offer

Like the player, but not real happy about the contract (same as Napoli)

Don't like the contract giving to Victorino, but as Pet Abraham mentioned, Shane can play some CF too, might be a good time to flip Ellsbury in a deal for some pitching?

Need ellsburys value to be a bit more ideal to do that. I dreamed up a funny Stanton trade for the sox earlier but idk if it would happen

I hate the money and 3 years, but honestly thats definitely more tolerable than the stupidity that was Crawford, they could eat the last year or year and a half of this deal no problem if it came to it. They did say they wanted a defensive RF that could also play CF, so its a good fit. Cherington also said Ross was still in play.

I think Ells is staying for the meantime...see what happens come late spring/early summer

The rest of the moves could be minor, dealing Salty, signing someone like Lohse, things like that. I doubt we will see a crazy deal at this point, although the money being thrown around is pretty crazy, so that may be the best method to adding impactful players.

Just happy to see something resembling major league talent again, also a little hyped about this Strong news!!

Jmoore said it, let it be done lol

@PeteAbe: RT @Buster_ESPN: Rival officials believe the Red Sox are laying the groundwork for a trade of Jacoby Ellsbury, for the pitching they need

Seems like the Mariners are looking to sign an impact player, maybe a team in their situation would pony up some pitching prospects. I don't think it honestly would take too much. Not like Stanton bringing back at least 3 studs.

A top pitching prospect and some bits and pieces, lets roll.

They are in a good position with Ellsbury tho, don't need to deal him, but they have Jackie Bradley jr in the wings if they can find the right deal.

I need something positive to take my mind off this coaching nonsense...

Saw this on another site, to summarize:

So far, come 2015, I think this all that is currently on the books...

Pedroia 11M (option)
Napoli 13M
Victorino 13M
Buchholz 12.25M

We are one of only 5 teams that have no commitments in the year 2016: Houston, Oakland, Miami, Seattle and Boston (To be fair, excluding Oak, everyone finished last in their division haha)

And, at that point, there's a good chance some combination of Bogaerts, Bradley, Barnes, RDLR, Webster, and maybe the #7 pick (just to name the top 6 prospects) are on the 25-man roster for peanuts.

Pretty sure guys like Middlebrooks, Lavarnway, Kalish, Iglesias will be arb eligible or resigned to moderate deals by then.

Future is bright and there is so much flexibility with this roster.

Bogearts has Mega star MVP potential. Bradley might be very good. I like DE la Rosa.

Dodgers trade was a really really good idea

Hoping Boagerts turns into the next Hanley (but better) Bradley I think will just be an above average MLer, thinking Victorino type, good defense, good on the bases, some pop. Barnes and RDLR and even Webster to an extent will be the ones that future success will be tied to. If Barnes and RDLR pan out the rotation has a chance to hopefully get on your level 005 hah
