Below is a "cut-and-paste" from a rant I was on on a different thread . . .
Wow! Urban Meyer has, yet again, proven himself to be the eptiome of moral character and leadership. After one of his players was caught (in high-definition no less) attempting to tear the eyeballs out of an opposing player's skull as he lay helplessly pinned beneath a pile of tacklers, Saint Urban has drawn his own "line in the sand," sending a clear message that such conduct will NOT be tolerated. The harsh punishment that he handed out to Brandon Spikes was to suspend him . . . for a half . . . against Vanderbilt . . . probably the worst team in the SEC.
Geee . . . the last time I checked LaGarret Blount from Oregon got suspened for most (possibly all) of the season for throwing a punch and hitting a Boise State player (who happened to touch Blount and verbally taunt him after the game was over). Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State got suspended for the entire season because he had dinner with Deon Sanders and then lied about it to the NCAA (incidently, his actions were not a violation of any rules . . . he was just a young kid who got frightened because of the scrutiny and questions. Anyone who has been questioned by cops or by an investigator can relate to the stress, regardless of whether or not you personally did anything wrong).
Meanwhile, Brandon Spikes attempts to blind an opponent who can't defend himself because of all the bodies lying on top of him and he gest a slap on the wrist. Players in the NFL get fined thousands of dollars for hitting someone around the knees because they could end an opponent's career by causing a knee injury. Spikes could have altered that UGA running back's ENTIRE LIFE by damaging his eyes. Not to mention the fact that this is just some gutless, chicken@#$% crap on the part of one of the supposed "pillars" of the Florida Gators team. Great leadership, huh?
I have heard all the arguments: this kind of stuff happens all the time . . . it's no big deal . . . it's football, etc. All of this is complete GARBAGE. Of course, in a society that wants to give a famous movie director (Roman Polanski) a "pass" for drugging and raping a 13-year old girl because he is a "great artist" or because the crime happened "a long time ago" this type of sickening moral relativism is hardly surprising.
All of those who want to talk about how good and upstanding Saint Urban Meyer is need to remember this crap. I have watched these late-hitting, scum-bags play for most of my life, and this is the type of crap that I have seen over and over. Can you imagine a Joe Paterno-coached player getting off for something like this with only a half-game suspension against Northwestern? Come on . . .
Have a good time sitting out for a half against a team that you probably wouldn't have played much against anyway, Mr. Spikes. I'm sure that God (oh, I mean Tim Tebow) will forgive you.
