I think it's funny that he only suspended for one half against Vandy. Does he think that without spikes in the whole game Vandy's gonna pull an upset? :w00t:

I played football and while it happens all the time and I'm willing to bet Golic did it a few times himself as D-lineman gotta be mean fellas on the field, it still should be punished if caught. A half against Vanderbilt is a complete joke. The SEC should step in and extend it.

I played football and I'm pretty sure I never did anything like this when there was a fumble, and nothing like that was ever done to me, or my teammates for that matter. How are you Gators sure it's so common. If it's because you guys did something like this then I think I'm starting to see the problem.

Never once encountered eye gouging while playing... if anyone pulled that on me they'd be getting a thumb in the windpipe every down.

Worst thing that ever happened in a pileup would be a little joint twisting and elbowing.

He served his punishment, was forgiven by the victim and got a high recommendation by a local Catholic school.


That's like criticizing the Eagles for signing Vick. He did his time, learned his lesson, got a vote of confidence by one of the highest character men in the NFL (Dungy) and earned his 2nd chance.

this is a letter a good freind of mine just wrote and hes a FL grad and BIG TIME Gator fan.

"If the Brandon Spikes eye gouging story is true, I will be one extremely disappointed Florida Graduate, Class of 1962, if he is not fhrown off the team. There is no place in Florida Athletics for this type of behavior. Also, if Coach Meyer does not feel the same way, he has no business at Florida. Another national championshis is not worth this price.

Suspended Spikes for the first half of the Vandy game, for gouging the RB from UGA, in the eyes, while he was in the pile.

Easy coach, its not like he put someones eye out.

Kornheiser & Wilbon on PTI just said that the half-game suspension was "a joke". And IIRC Wilbon questioned whether Fla wasn't getting preferential treatment from the SEC office. FWIW.

Oh Urbie has control over them alright...He just has to spend more time teaching them NOT to get caught.
