The *OFFICIAL* Brandon Spikes thread (merged)

No, but what's the harm in hearing what he has to say, first? All I am arguing is that in real time it was very fast and I don't think its right to simply assume that it was intentional.

If it was, suspend him for a game, I've no problem with that. But just be sure about it, first.

Yet you continue with the let's be sure about it first garbage. The only one who truly knows is Spikes...is it that hard to understand?

Ealey knows too. If Slive has any balls (debatable at this point) he suspends him from a game. But I doubt he does anything because of his mancrush on Florida and Alabama right now.

ESPN writer seems in accord with my view: Florida's Spikes has some explaining to do - SEC - ESPN

If it was intentional, he should be punished. But let's be sure about that, first.

If Florida doesn’t suspend Brandon Spikes, then the SEC office should. Unless the video below has been doctored, this is simply unacceptable from a college football player. Spikes is a great player. He is also an emotional player. And he clearly let his emotions get the best of him when he stuck his hand inside Waushan Ealey’s facemask. My hope is that Florida coach Urban Meyer looks at the video, is horrified, and suspends Spikes for at least one game. Spikes needs a reality check. Look, I know enough former players who have told me that a lot of bad things happen in pileups. But this is right out in the open and everything was caught on camera. This is a player intentionally trying to hurt another player. It’s simple: If coaches are going to be held accountable for their actions and officials are going to be held accountable for their mistakes, then players must be held accountable for what they do. There is no place in the game for something like this.

If Florida doesn’t suspend Spikes, SEC office should | Mr. College Football

I guess I think its a little more complicated than that. But it is clear that you (and it would seem just about everyone else here) has simply made up his mind. I obviously am a little more open about it, waiting to hear what might be said about it from others, including Spikes, before I jump to the conclusion you have.

I'm not going to change your mind, you aren't going to close mine.

Yeah, like that thug is going to say "I did it on purpose" before he gets punished. He will receive a punishment before he utters anything remotely close to those words. My guess is Slive nor Meyer will do anything. I hope I'm wrong.

One of the things I frequently deal with in work is videotape that looks bad, but has to be put in context and the people involved spoken to before you reach conclusions.

If they are a Florida fan do you immediately side with them? Or vice versa for a rival fan? I wouldn't be surprised.

Spikes is clearly driving his hand into the opening in the face mask.
Guys, do not let LG take you down the "lets be sure" road. There is NO DOUBT that Spikes was trying to injure his face.

Don't argue with an idiot.

Sometimes things are blantantly obvious. This is one of those times. No if's, ands, or buts. No different than the Albert Haynesworth incident in the pro's.

I have put t-town on my ignore list. I would wager, however, that he is just insulting me, yet again..

Sometimes they are - you're right. But what I have found is that you don't know whether you are dealing with one of those times or not until you talk to the people involved.

Spikes may simply say I didn't intend to hurt him, and that would not be proof enough for you to dismiss the issue. But, he might say, and here's why with an explanation that makes sense. All I am saying is find that out.

yet, he can not seem to actually ignore me and runs from defending his idiocy.

I would say that I Win.

I agree that the initial hand may have been accidental. However, the digging that follows is absolutely deliberate and no amount of spin by you can change that.

He clearly cocks his arm to an angle that there is NO DOUBT what his intentions are. He went after his face.
A UGA lineman sees it and reaches pull his arm away.

He's out the first half of the Vandy game, just saw it on ESPN. I honestly think at least a game was deserved.

A whole half against Vandy. Oh noes. He should get the same treatment as Blount from Oregon.

Quick move from the MODs. I entered the thread in the main forum, but when I exited I had been warped to the NCAA forum.

Wait!!!!
Did they look at the video from all angles and talk to everyone involved. Things are not as they appear sometimes.

I was shocked to hear Mike Golic go absolutely beserk on him. I respect Golic, and i wanted to see (as a former football player) what he would say. He slammed him, saying this was worse than Blount's punch against Boise State. I was kind of surprised.

It's their next game, had they postponed his suspension for a couple of weeks to make sure he would sit out against a cup cake opponent I would have a problem with it. Sitting out a half is a fair enough result of his actions IMO.
