The Official Braves Thread Of Volnation

I think the "Reitsma is my closer" talk is pretty much a thing of the past. He got absolutely torched (again) on Sunday.
Yeah but what are the Braves options?

I think even a good 8th inning guy would help solidify the bullpen. Cox is looking for anybody to show a glimmer of consistency.

I've heard it all now!
Well I guess you can throw him in with the Barry Bonds camp of selfish individuals in a team sport :biggrin2:

Top of the ninth, men on first and second, no outs.Renteria, great bunt right back to the pitcher.Andruw Jones strikes out, Francoeur strike out. :banghead:

None of it would have mattered if the bullpen hadn't imploded for the 800th time this year!?! :banghead:

That pen REALLY sucks. It's like the crap they used to run out there in the mid to late 80s. They MUST go make a deal or two for some relief help if they want to contend.

I can't believe they blew a three run lead in the 8th.

They have no consistent answer out of the bullpen. It's not just 1 or 2 guys struggling. They all are in the tank and there are no defined roles whatsoever other than a couple of them suck worse than the others.

It's not good. I think when I looked yesterday they were 11 games back.

Mike Remlinger just decided to come up with a new way to blow a ballgame . . . A throwing error on a bunt.

The bullpen would have been better off if they had just stayed in the clubhouse and stuck their heads in the toilets.

If I were a starter I would refuse to take the mound for them unless Bobby promised me I would be left in to complete any game in which I had a lead.

They just flashed a graphic on FSN. Since May 28th, Macay McBride's ERA is 3.60. The next lowest is 5.65!?! A couple of them are 10+.???

Everything you hear down here is that Time Warner is going to sell the Braves to Liberty Media in a stock deal that could be announed at any time. Supposedly the operations and budget will remain unchanged . . . which kind of sucks since after years of Ted Turner's open checkbook, John Schurholtz has been hamstrung by Time Warner's salary constaints.
I miss Ted Turner. Now there was a great owner IMO.

He became a great owner once he quit pretending he knew anything about player personnel.

hasnt middle relief and to a slightly lesser degree closer pitching been the Braves weak spot since 1990? I mean you'd think theyd get the point after 17 years....

They certainly have gone through a bunch of closers. Really Mark Wohlers, John Rocker and John Smotlz have been the only 3 bond fide closers they've had. The rest were either at the end of their careers or were 8th inning guys that got thrown into the role.

This is the worst the Braves have been since the 80's. 1990 was the start of all this being in first place-with the exception of the strike season when Montreal was on top in the East. Seems the power has blown a fuse and the the bullpen blows the leads and the starting pitching outside of "Smoking" Smoltz and Hudson leaves a lot to be desired. If the Braves don't make up some ground by just after the All-Star break then the season is "caput." Think the biggest thing they need is pitching. Hard to beat the starting rotation they had in the 90's (Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine). That was one of the best trios in the NL. The Birds(Baltimore) had a great foursome in the late 60's to early 70's!

Is Smoltz scheduled to pitch on Saturday? I just got to Atlanta and I will probably go tomorrow night to see Hudson but I was considering the Saturday game.
