The Official Braves Thread Of Volnation

I think the only reason this is getting any coverage is that it happens to coincide within a few days of when Andruw will become a "10 and 5" man. I still can't believe they'd actually neuter the lineup like that after making the pre-deadline moves that they did.

The "debut" of the Shockmaster on TBS is some of the funniest television ever.

I can still see Sid's face as he struggled not to laugh while selling complete fear.

Not quite on the level of Arn cowering at the appearance of Robocop, but close.

Poor WCW just never could quite overcome their own cheese factor.
I think part of it was how great the Horsemen were. They had to come up with these ridiculous gimmicks and angles to elevate their other workers to the level of Flair, Anderson, Blanchard, and Windham/Luger/Sid.

About the Jones' Situation:

Beginning Tuesday, all teams were permitted to place as many as seven players per day on the waiver wire. Thus by Friday, many teams will have already put members of their 25-man roster on waivers.

Multiple teams can claim a player who has been placed on waivers. If two teams were to claim a specific player, the lower-ranking team according to winning percentage (whether it be an American or National League team), is given rights to that player for 48 hours.

If the Astros and Red Sox were to both put a claim on Andruw Jones, the Astros would have that 48-hour period to discuss a trade with the Braves. If nothing materialized, Jones would remain with the Braves.

All players remain on the waiver wire for two full business days. If they are never claimed, they can be traded at any point, to any team for the remainder of the season. But to be eligible for the postseason, a player must be traded by Aug. 31.

If a player is claimed by a team and a deal never materializes, a team will not likely place them back on waivers. When they initially place a player on waivers, a team has the right to pull them back at any time.

But when a player is placed on waivers a second time, the claim is irrevocable. Thus any claiming team owns the rights and a trade must be completed.

I might be wrong, but I think I heard tonight that when a player is claimed after being initially placed on waivers, if he is not traded within 48 hours, the waiving must pull him back or lose him to the claiming team outright. That leads me to believe that if a player were placed on irrevocable waivers, he would become the "property" of the claiming team, with or without a trade. Without a trade, perhaps the claiming team loses a draft pick to the waiving team. Does any of this sound right? Or is the player not playing for anybody that year until a deal is worked out. I was just thrown off by the statement that "at trade must be completed." What if they can't reach an agreement?

Don't rip on Torborg. His son is arguably the worst professional wrestler of all time.

He was flying out of an airport I was in a few weeks ago. One of the local minor league teams is tied to the major league team he is "bench coach"...or whatever he is, for. He had "his" World Series Ring on.

By the way, what former wrestler was the "Demon?" I'm lost on that one.

Torborg's son played a character named "The Demon". He was "co-sponsored" by KISS and pretty much wrestled *cough* as Gene Simmons.

Irrevocable waivers are exactly that. If someone claims them, they get them. The Red Sox tried to get out from under Manny Ramirez's contract a couple of years ago by putting him on irrevocable waivers. Nobody took the bait.

On a sidenote, I got to hold the World Series Trophy yesterday at work.

The White Sox have a rookie league team nearby, and when the guys with the organization were flying it back to Chicago, I saw them and got to hold it.

It's not too heavy. It's made by Tiffany and Co. and has silver and gold engraving on it.

Overall, a pretty cool expierence. Sadly, its a lot closer to a World Series Trohpy than the Braves will get this season.

Wow. The most I remember holding was Bowling Green State's Silver Bowl trophy from the early '90s. My buddy used to be the Director of Football Ops there, and we found it in a storage room. Far cry from the World Series trophy.

Anybody just see Andruw Jones homer to pick up his career 1,000th RBI . . . and then promptly fall on his face just as he was going into his homerun trot at first base.

Terry Pendleton is STILL laughing.

Did he trip over the base?

NO . . . That's what was so funny. He got close to first base and started doing Sammy Sosa looking chop steps before he touched first base, and he tripped over thin air and went face down on the first base bag. It wasn't just a stumble, it was a complete wipeout.

Don't worry . . . I guarantee you that you'll be seeing that on SportsCenter.

This Wild Card race is nuts. I thought it was over last week when they dropped to 7 games out, but if the Reds score holds up and they lose, tomorrow morning there are going to be 10 teams within 5 games and 8 teams within 3 1/2 games of the lead.

I see the Braves are 4 back now. It really makes you think 'what if'.

"What if...." we come from behind and win the wild card, and then procede to the World Series and then win it all? i would cry.....haha
